However, across the 18 years here I have found that Art Arfons' old jet car shop is three miles from mine and one of the original 23 Chevy Cheetahs is stashed in a collectors garage nearby. You just don't know until you know.

G'day!

We had a restaurant here at one point right next to the airport called "The Skyline" that originally served as an officer's club. It was owned by the parents of one of my classmates.
The building is still there to this day and still a restaurant but has changed hands quite a few times. In fact back in the 80's I did a landscape renovation there for one of the owners. Lots of oyster shell in the surrounding soil made it a challenge digging. It's now called "Lost Lagoon". ![]()

You can bet the car you saw was not one of the six made, but an aftermarket conversion. Might have even been another motor as well. Subi/auto comes to mind.

It's not all upside but yesterday:
Went to 3 stores and stood in line for less than 10 seconds collectively. Went to a new movie with my son (a 2 minute drive) and we spent no time in line while my dirt bike sat in the driveway, the house and garage were unlocked and absolutely nothing happened to any of it. The dog also wandered into my neighbor's yard again and she was happy to see it. |

In 1983 I attended Mississippi State University in Starkville for one very long year. I was driving my 914. Below is a pic of it I took from my dorm window. I was the only P-car in town and it was considered by the locals as very exotic. Once I went to a local parts store to find some oil and the whole store emptied out so I could show them my car. Two trunks? Where's the engine? How fast will it go?

No traffic. No crowds. Almost no crime. I think Barney Fife is still around with one bullet in his pocket.

It’s great for a car guy who enjoys driving his cars. Very, very light traffic except at planting and harvest time. If I want to take an evening drive in my truck or one of my cars I’m completely unhindered. I can drive for miles without hitting a traffic light and I meet very few cars or trucks. The roads are fun, remote, flat straight roads, straight undulating roads, and roller coaster roads within a few miles.
I hate city traffic.

The sportomatic 914 was never sold or marketed by Porsche through dealerships. They built all sorts of test mules and market studies, but no sportomatic versions for production. It even made it into the workshop manual. They have an entire section on repair and service of the Sportomatic in the workshop manual. They almost marketed it,, but pulled the plug.
Porsche built a 928 prototype, with the body of a VW rabbit for testing. It was certainly never a production car. Way back in 1974 I was young, and just bought my 74 914 2.0 and it was a beautiful fall day on a Saturday and I went to drive the roads in Central Alabama. I just picked roads and drove. I ended up in Weogufka with a need for more gasoline. I stopped at the only gas station I could find, and it looked like something from the Andy Griffith Show and I expects to see Goober come out. I pumped my gas, and I noticed two boys that were about 8 or 10 and I heard clearly as one said to the other "Lookie thar, that's a real race car" and I just pumped my gas and smiled.

yeah I live in tractorfordchevydogdeville PA. I have the only 914 for miles and it's one of two Porsches in a town of 21000 people. There are car shows here every week i think, but a very lonely place for any foreign car owner.

Well, you can pick up locally produced beer and wine, grade 8 bolts, a new flapper valve and Bondo at the same place. No traffic really. OK, during parts of the year you have tractors on the roads. We have space. I can go across the road to fly our RC planes. There are larger grocery stores a dozen miles away.

I grew up in a town of 1100 people. We had a bunch of muscle cars, old 'vettes and such but when I bough my Cobra replica another guy in town bought one. His was the LWB version though. There was another longhood in town also.
Just up the road there is a guy that has a few exotics. An LM-002, and RS 200, the more common F and L cars. Saw a really nice early 70s 365/GTS. Sounded really nice as well. Another guy in a neighboring town has a car he is building for the standing mile thing in Texas. Right now he said it is only at 3000hp. Local guy is doing the motor as well. That local guy does heads for Rousch and also does tractors for pulling. The other sort of local guy that did my heads for the Cobra has done a couple engines for guys in Guinness for speed records.

One thing a farmer friend pointed out to me, no farmer is ever is impressed with a $250,000 sports car that is only used to get attention. They have a $200,000 combine next to the $200,000 tractor pulling a $60,000 plow or disc and a bunch of other equipment needed to make a living in a barn that cost more than the house.

Well, I'm not driving my stuff to impress anyone. It is for my own enjoyment. If others enjoy it too, great...but I some sour puss thinks I'm trying to impress them, that's on them.
