^^^ I was a little surprised DARPA thought that was unique.
I directed and managed the first autonomous UAS helicopter land at sea in 2006. ![]() ![]() ![]() Very successful program that helped spur better air frames and missions. The Navy H-60 had a automated approach to hover, hover, and departure in the 1980's. Weird.

The FLIR pod on the B-1 was a later modification.
The F-117 will be on static display @ the Palm Springs air museum soon. Watching a B-1 doing terrain following in Star Wars Canyon, Death Valley is completely over the top.

Seahawk,
I worked on the first one at Teledyne Ryan in San Diego, took it to China Lake for first flights, you must have worked out of Webster with the later crews |

The Navy moved away from the Schweizer/Sikorsky air frame to a Bell version. It is a much more capable helicopter. I was gone by then. I do have some neat stories - interesting time frame to be in UAS! MQ-8C:

Worked on the C model when we were calling it Fire-X, I set up the GCS out in Yuma, of course stayed long enough for the first couple of flights, there was always something else to get flying back then

ATC got to talk to a SR71. The Concord was at 60,000 feet and the ATC wanted to be sure the SR71 was 4,000 feet above that.

Ace in a Day, with Jets?
I am sceptical. Suspect this is folklore, urban legend. and at least some of those shoot downs were by SAM's.. Especially since some of them supposedly happened in overcast weather. Like this one supposedly was the Ghost of Kyiv? ![]() People on the ground just hear jet noise, they can't tell who's jet it is. And then they se parts falling.. can't even tell who's jet it is either. Unlikely is the word here.

I thought it was cool until now-he essentially wants the public to fund his aircraft?

KCGX (Meigs)- 19 years ago this month, Mrs. Daley finally got her Park. I was lucky enough to stop by in August of '02. I had to drop off some documents with one of our clients. Unforgettable flight- logged an hour of actual (coming in from Toledo). Shot the GPS 36, and I distinctly remember breaking out just over the Museum. Glorious memory.
