Very noisy here today. Once again, La Crosse is the meeting place for Bonanzas to Oshkosh. There were a whole bunch of them parked last night and this morning. I didn't have my camera with me when I went to dump my yard waste. They all left a few minutes ago. I did take some photos yesterday from my back yard.

Talking to a coworker yesterday, and he told me to check out Stevie Triesenberg

Finally getting back to working on the LongEZ’s engine cowlings. Next step, sealer and paint when the temps drop a little bit.

In an aircraft Mecca, this was remarkable! A resurrection after 45 years on the bottom of a European lake.

Stigler-Brown Incident. This is an animation. Sans dialogue, none needed really. I knew a couple of old soldiers, one German, one American. They met at a nursing home in Navasota, that guy did not speak a lick of English. They were on opposite sides of a couple of rivers at various times in the forties. Happened to be the only one there could sprechen his lingo, they joked about lucky neither was a good shot.
Quote:
"If I ever see or hear of you shooting at a man in a parachute, I will shoot you myself."

Those were the words that came to Franz Stigler's mind when he saw the badly damaged B-17 that was somehow still flying. To him, that plane limping back to England with its wounded crew was the same as a parachute. This story was kept classified for the remainder of the war and only came to light when the two pilots managed to find each other again in 1990.

Back in June of 2000, I was riding the train to Los Angeles when I saw this little blimp somewhere west of Alpine, Texas. Does anyone know what it was used for?

Hard to say, but my guess would be a tethered aerostat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethered_Aerostat_Radar_System

We looked at unmanned blimps for years.

I visited an Aerostat site in Arizona in 2006. We were looking at smaller Aerostats to be tethered to back of ships underway.

Never gained purchase because of the set up and take down time on ships with deployed helo's.

What train? I am looking for a train trip next year.
