Ticket from a town I've never been in

PM me a scanned copy of your ticket, both front and back, the cover letter that came with it, and the front of the envelope. Photos are fine if you don’t have a scanner. I’ll let you know what’s going on before Monday morning.

IMHO.....

Two possible scenarios:

1) It' a scam. Take it to your local courthouse and ask if they can verify it for you. This is what you are entitled to as a taxpaying resident.

2) It's a mistake, based on an incorrectly recorded license plate number. An "I" incorrectly denoted as a "1", for example. Since the document you posted does not contain this info, I cannot say for sure, but if the document is not a scam (see #1 above) then this would be a likely culprit in the error.

If the ticket has a hearing date/time stated, first thing to do is call the court/clerk to confirm the date/time actually exists. If it doesn’t exist, after confirming the date/time were not administratively adjourned to some other date/time, I would toss ticket in trash. If it does exist, how you proceed depends on how much $ you want to spend and time you want to devote to this

I've thought of those two scenarios but this is so far out of the ordinary that I have to consider something else:

3) One block away from the Police Department a quota needed to be fulfilled. I happen to be at the opposite end of the state so the likelihood that i just pay the fine to make it go away rises.

I've looked on Google Earth and every intersection has a camera, the location (6905 Park Ave, Guttenberg NJ) has a Post Office right across the street. Video evidence should be easy to find.

I figure if that isn't enough I also have my EZPass to fall back on, on the date in question that vehicle didn't move, but the two other drivers were in locations about two hours away.

I'll keep you guys posted

I agree with #2 being a possibility. #1 I don’t believe your local court can or will assist. They owe you nothing regarding a ticket issued in another county. And, are not permitted to give legal advice anyway

Call the number on ticket like I said above. Your ez pass does nothing for you and nobody is looking up video surveillance for a parking ticket issue. Your best bet would be an affidavit from your employer saying where you were on the date at issue

I went to the website, it gives minimal information.

Besides, I prefer to talk to an actual person (advice taken, I will be nice)

Since the State is the offended party, I figure as a part of discovery they have to turn over all evidence, even what they haven't even thought of, such as video footage.

Like I originally stated, for this $39 ticket, I hope to cost them at least $3,900 to continue.

There is a phone number on the picture. It ties with the Guttenberg, NJ Muni Court. OP's notice pic may have been taken with a toaster but it appears to be a legit phone number.



I suspect they can, by law, do everything they are threatening. However........

What I suggest is calling them in the morning. Relaxed and upbeat. Be real nice.

Have them find the hand written ticket and see if it's the same type car as yours for starters. I suspect that may take a long time but you never know as they may have a scan of the ticket tied to your license plate readily accessible.

If everything they do comes up with your car as the "perp". Just pay it.

I'll kick in $5 thru PayPal just so you don't have stress related cardiac failure.
