I went from Portland to San Diego in a day in a half in a Tesla.

Not cross country, but it was over 1000 miles, no problem. Even with today’s tech and infrastructure, it’s faster and easier than you might think.

I’ve not researched it, but I think cross country isn’t much of a problem today. And it keeps getting faster.

Distance driving is no issue with the Supercharging network. Most hotels and many restaurants now offer EV charging so you rarely are doing more than a single longer stop if you're doing a normal road trip.

They're rolling out the V3 superchargers as we speak which put out 250kw with no voltage loss when shared with another Tesla so the difference between a traditional gas stop and recharge are inching closer.

Depends on where you live. East and west coast have passable coverage. Major interstates are in a similar situation. Outside of those areas it is slim pickings.

There are just over 1500 supercharger stations in the US. They have a long way to go.

The 100mile range Focus electric sold a whopping 560 in 2018.

The Tesla seems to offer the best of EV's and they sell them at a loss, even after heavy govt subsidies. Even after selling carbon credits --a politically manufactured cost paid to Tesla, from profits on gas cars. What does the pinnacle of gas automotive engineering look like? An F1 car? - No, of course not. So many restrictions in the "Formula" there. Yet still, there is a point on gas powered performance.

Anyway, Comparing true costs, a gas car can out perform an EV in the majority of metrics. Add a hybrid system to that and it's a metrics killer across the board.

So many EV owners want to tout the EV's acceleration - but don't want to talk about how severely that shortens the life of the very expensive battery pack. I suppose this is akin to putting Nitrous Oxide on a gas car. --goes like stink, but at a price on system life. Of course N₂O doesn't need software Easter-egg option boot wait time tracked by the warranty voider... I mean holder.

Also many EV owners want to tout the EV's range as being just as good as a gas car - as long as they don't hot-foot it or drive in really cold weather. ..or really hot weather.

I get it... Tesla owners clearly want to have "Pure" electric. It's neat. It gives a quiet yet strong acceleration while solving world hunger w/o feeding anyone. But that does not make it better than gas. Gas, after all, is what is and will be used to mine the metals used to make the super green (washed) EV car.

EV is good.

Very good in fact, for certain areas, and certain people with access and capitol, and with certain types of limited commuting.
(and only if you don't mind remaining plugged into the continuum)

For all others there is hybrid at best.

horses created huge... uh... piles of pollution in every city; causing rampant infections, flies, odors, etc.
