The problem was the turret, when lowered, extended below the point where the landing gear would be so in the event the retraction system failed, the plane would have an interesting landing. I came up with a manual method of retracting the turret that used an existing speed wrench included in the C-130 for manual lowering of the landing gear.

The Advanced Tactical Laser, nice! 100kW can do some damage.

Back in the day the RAF had the Short Belfast heavy lifter. It was the only aircraft on inventory that could shift the airfield fire-trucks as their wheel base was too long for the Hercules and they would wedge on the ramp hinge. I was told (probably not true) that on one occasion they loaded one up, took off - and barely made it airborne. When the Air Load-Master went back to work out WIHH, it was discovered the water / foam tanks were full. so they opened up the valves and let it all drain out.

As with all British projects, only ten were ever made. All only ever used by the RAF - who, when (due to some inevitable budget cut or another) they were retired, five were sold off to the Heavy Lift outfit.
