I maintain two nesting boxes for black bellied whistling ducks in my back yard. It is always fun to watch the little ones bail out when they are ready to go. The parents call them out and wait under the box for the rain of ducklings.

Why do so many photographers insist on pushing the saturation to such unnatural levels? The photos look fake.
The digital enhancements are the auto-tune of the photography world and are a substitute for the talent needed to capture the photo with proper settings.

With respect to svandamme's oversize video on ducklings, which I watched in it's entirety and enjoyed, if you right click on the Youtube screen and choose "Copy embed code" it will render a much larger post footprint then if you choose below the screen "Share" then "Embed" then copy the string and paste.

Here are the size differences for that YouTube video.

Not hatin'. Not throwing shade. Just saying.

I totally agree. As a photographer, I prefer to see it as it really was, not supersaturated and just fake looking. I don't want to edit other photographers work and take the time to lower the saturation to what is more realistic.

It is like a duck face on so many people, I hope it is a passing fad.

in 1998, fishermen spotted a manned North Korean submarine tangled in nets in South Korean waters. South Korean Navy ships placed the disabled sub under tow at which point it sank after possibly being scuttled by the crew. When a salvage team was able to recover the sub, it was discovered that the crew had been executed by officers who then committed suicide. Items found in the sub also indicated that the sub was carrying members of North Korean special forces who had recently infiltrated the South Korean mainland.

Another classic oversaturated image.

Agreed, it's too common today for folks to bump the saturation to levels that look unnatural, and often greatly dim the impact of the photo in my eye.

I will often make some changes, sharpness, saturation, contrast, exposure in post processing, but there's a limit. Most devices incorporate enhancements to saturation and sharpness when pics are jpg. I shoot (with my camera) in raw to leave that up to me. I try to make the pics look like I thought they looked by eye when I took the pic.

And similar enhancements were made on film when that was a thing. But like I said, a lot of folks, in my opinion, go way too far. It's like a lot of the "filters" that folks apply to themselves in selfies.

Griffith J. Griffith, the rich man who donated
Griffith park to Los Angeles in order to wipe out
a huge tax liability, became a crazed drunkard
who shot his wife in the head in a fit of jealousy.
The bullet went through her eye and exited
the skull but did not kill her.
He made up several lies: from it was an accident
to she tried to commit suicide.

He was eventually convicted but was
only sentenced to two years.
