Agreed. In the two posts above, when I quote, I see the info, but on the page, I see no images

The forum software won't display uploaded images right now. The one below is linked.

Yea, I noticed the pics are not showing. I figured they will show up when the system is rebooted or fixed. I did the uploads like the last zillion so not my end. The forum is stuck and needs a slap upside its head.

Yep, I try to upload as little as possible. If the file can be linked, that's the route that I take. No need to eat up PP HDD space with random stuff if not necessary.

Two potential problems with that. Over time, images hosted elsewhere can go away. A giant image will change the scale of a browser, making everything else display at a reduced scale, which is annoying. If you just make sure the image you're linking isn't over say 1,200 pixels wide, not a problem. Some here don't consider that. What does it cost Pelican to host images, anyway. This website is a moneymaker for Pelican, attracting viewers to the site, anyway.

Yep, images disappear. I generally try to keep images smaller than 1600 pixels wide, and sometimes 1920 pixels wide. I used to try to stick to 1200 and under.

I usually skip the big stuff (2500, 3000, 4000, etc...), although I'm sure that there are a few big ones in the 2500-3000 range that I've posted. If I discover that I inadvertently posted something huge, I'll usually go back and swap it out for something else or delete the image.

I figure the tech boards are a money maker. But the OT board, especially thousands and thousands of random pics, probably not so much. And while HDD keep getting cheaper, they aren't free, and even though the small 800 pixel wide images are fairly small, tens of thousands of them do start adding up.

Maybe people shouldn't keep the pics in their quotes.

That shouldn't use/require any more HDD space. It's not a new copy of the image, just a link to the original image, similar to linking to images in other websites.

I feel like I need some of these, but have never bought any.

If you say so. IDK how that works. You have to agree that most of the time it's annoying especially when multiple images are copied.

Often times there is a comment referencing one of the images.

Yep, I do it. I do usually try to remember to remove all images that i'm not directly commenting on, and maybe sometimes even those, depending upon the thread and info.

Yup. They quote 10 images that we just saw to say "cool".

Edit: It shows my link in the preview, but no pic.

I wonder what the maximum pixel width is that wouldn’t be too wide for some browsers, as a low resolution will cause a 1,200-1,500 pixel width image to be too large. 800 pixels seems too small and outdated. Some images I’ll resize down to 400-500 as appropriate.

No image posted here for cost savings.

The giraffe image above is 1,440 pixels wide and causes the width of the rest of the thread to be reduced by around 40% on my iPhone. My attorneys will be in touch with you, Steve…

Yep, the local hosting of new images portion of the site seems to be broken right now.

I assume that depends upon the browser, device resolution, and probably even the image. I know that some software allows you to specify ppi or something like that, as well as quality (often a slider) when you save. I believe the normal ppi is 72. If you saved an image at 150 that might cause the image to display differently on a page.

Right, big difference between viewing on a PC and viewing on a phone. I do 99% of my PPOT surfing on a PC. When I surf on my phone, if threads full of pics look odd, I always figure that's the cost of surfing on a phone. Fortunately, I can usually zoom in if I want/need to on the phone easily enough.
