James Maitland “Jimmy” Stewart was an Academy Award-winning actor known for his distinctive drawl and everyman screen persona, with a film career that spanned 80 films from 1935 to 1991. He was also a decorated military pilot!
Stewart became the first major American movie star to enlist in the United States Army to fight in World War II. As an experienced amateur pilot, he reported for induction as a private in the Air Corps in 1941. He was promoted to major following a mission to Ludwigshafen, Germany, in 1944 and was promoted to full colonel in 1945, becoming one of the few Americans to ever rise from private to colonel in only four years.
Stewart eventually returned home and transferred to the reserves of the U.S. Air Force, all while continuing to make movies. During active-duty periods he served with the Strategic Air Command and completed transition training as a pilot on the B-47 and B-52.

This is the wild-looking Packard 2775, a 24-cylinder "X" engine. The "X" represents the arrangement of the engine's banks of cylinders, which in this case form the shape of an X. This engine was developed in the 1920s as the powerplant for a US Navy aircraft that was hoped would win the Schneider Trophy Race. All 24 pistons connected to a single crankshaft in the middle, and in total the 2775 displaced 2,775 cu in (45.5 litres). On this engine, it was possible to mount four spark plugs per cylinder (two per side). It made an impressive 1,500 hp before the 1930s, but it was never fitted to an aircraft and only a few were built.

Ferdinand Porsche in a 1903 Lohner-Porsche.
The Lohner-Porsche employed in-hub/wheel electric motors (yes, well over 100yrs ago) with a 'gasoline' engine acting as a generator.
Along with other versions that were purely electric, and another that could operate on either, or from what I can see, both power supplies, Porsche was a leader of electric car technology in every sense of the word.
Porsche came up with the idea almost purely on his own at the age of 18 (or probably earlier ((update: looks like it took until the age of 24 before the first ones were built, purely electric, then added 'gasoline' engines as generators/drive motors)) and was in the right place and right time to have somebody fund and be able to build it with him.
Porsche was in 1906 employed by Daimler-Benz, itself a relatively new company as Chief Designer.
Jacob Löhner said at the time, 'He is very young, but is a man with a big career before him. You will hear of him again'. And boy did we.
Just look at the history.. Even the original moon lander employed a lot of the technology and design from this system.

Growing up in Niceville, Florida, we used to see these C-130 gunships flying around. They were based out of Hurlburt Field just outside of Fort Walton Beach. Spectre, Death From Above!!!

The Soviet M-50A first flew in October 1959 with the four VD-7 non-after burning engines installed. Whilst the Bounder looked incredible for the 1950s and 60s, the performance was not so great. This bomber had been designed to exceed Mach 2. However, its under-performing engines could not push her past 650 mph (1,050 km/h) even in a shallow dive.
