A correct slot and probably hollow ground screwdriver tip simply cannot be beat. Most people hate slotted screw heads and slotted screw drivers because they have never been exposed to quality examples of either. My gunsmithing screwdriver set has no less than 40 different tips for slotted screws. Granted, the fastener itself must be properly made, and therein lies the problem.
