I thought for sure this was going to be another one of those massage parlor threads.

I think GM underestimates the contempt for the hummer brand, ford using mustang brand for their EV brings more good will I think.

how many KWhrs do you need to push a massive, aerodynamic brick to 350 miles range? It must be 200+

GM needs a halo product which isn't the Corvette, and the new Hummer is that halo product. It gives them instant awareness in the public mind/eyes and a platform to electrify everything in their lineup. This is just the first one released, a cheaper ($75k) is coming in a few years, color options in the future, an SUV configuration in the future, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if these motors or a form of these motors winds up in the Corvette.

It's a race to electrification for vehicle manufacturers right now then it will be a race to the bottom in terms of pricing.

Interesting. It's got a "Targa" to AND "T-tops". It's going to leak like a sieve if the tech is anything like the t-tops of the 80s.

The stats and capabilities listed are very impressive. I'm not the target, but I'd be happy to take one for a spin.

Nope, a 220 volt gas powered generator.

BMW currently uses a small (2 cyl? m/c) engine run on an Atkinson cycle as a range extender. You could also use an engine running on H or CH4, and eventually maybe a fuel cell.

OTOH, EV batteries might progress quickly enough to obviate a range extender.

For an off-road EV you do NOT want to get stuck in the outback due to drained batteries.

And not just the interior. The whole thing is absolutely hideous, just as the H2/H3 was before it. I don't care if it could climb walls...I would not be a buyer on that at any price, let alone 6 figures. YMMV...

In the context of Tesla pricing it’s very much in line. And build quality has got to be better.

I’m not a buyer but I think this is the beginning of the end for Tesla——-IF the gm product can meet the promises made.

They are either planning for it because they know it's coming or preparing for that eventuality. It's a bet, I'll bet.

$75k is the affordable model...lol. I know Tesla has found success with luxury electric cars but I have to think the ultimate market is fairly small and getting crowded. Electric cars are still a niche product by volume and with gas being cheap, they likely won’t make any serious inroads. I think an electric truck sounds awesome, instant torque would be great for towing. But I still don’t think the battery and charging technology are there for these to be a realistic alternative to ICE.

It's a weird thing. Some will be sold, but I don't see the yee-haw crowd (except a few) trading in their Raptors for E-Trucks even if they are faster and more powerful.

I wonder what the range is if you're towing something big and heavy. I've got to assume that towing a huge load will shorten your range like drag racing at full throttle. But then how many guys tow a huge boat or camper long distances these days. I just don't know.

I have a friend who bought an H2 Hummer. Never towed anything with it, never had more than 4 people in it. It was all about image. So there is a market.

And you don't see many of those on the road any longer. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw one.

There must be a giant pile of them somewhere...

Yeah that’s the market. Just like a Cybertruck. I routinely tow about 10,000 lbs 300 miles each way to the lake without a charger in sight. So it’s definitely not me.

Now that you mention it, yeah, I also can't remember the last time I saw one. I still occasionally see a HMMWV/Humvee, but those are nothing like the Hummer sold by GM.

Right, so at 300 miles, I can't imagine that you could tow that in one go. You could maybe/probably drive it with a 350 mile range, but I'm sure not dragging a big load behind you.

I tried to reserve one. They were sold out by 7:30 this morning. I don’t think they even offered them in Canada.
