Interesting, I've never seen that style before.

I have a lot of different style bolt and screw removal systems. Unfortunately I have had to use many of them. Reverse drilling extractors seem to work best for me.

Is the screw out? I had this happen with a brake sensor bolt. It took me like a week to get it out. It impresses me how some of you guys can figure out these problems so fast.

Here’s the little ****.

The left drill bit scooped out a nice bowl. Gave up and dremeled the knob. Miraculously didn’t damage the threads. Ohlins has them. But I didn’t ask the price.

When I put this all back together I’m going to use an easier to manipulate screw.

So I guess the next screwing will be from Ohlins. Order yourself some metric alloy steel hex drive flat head screws, flat heads are measured overall length not just threaded section.

No surprise that cheap ass screw has nothing for the ... uh ... hardened bit, left or right, to bite on.

Why didn't you dremel a slot ?

By the end there wasn’t much left of the screw head. Any more and I wouldn’t have been able to get a good grip with pliers.

I didn’t cut a slot in it because the screw was indented in the knob. No way to Drexel it without cutting into the knob anyway.

There is a place in town that will cut me a custom screw out of serious metal. Mostly they service the aircraft industry and the oil rigs. But come winter they get bored and will do anything to keep busy.

Shoulda tried cussin at it more. They always seem to come out when I find just the right combination of profanities to throw at them. I often find that the order in which you say the profanities has the most benefit. My problem is, I forget the order I used and when something like this happens again, I have to start all over.

This for sure, and ya gotta hold yer tongue to the right side of your lips and grimace at it to scare it loose.

The alloy hex drive from Mcmaster-carr will be the way to go, you can get a box for about $10.

And maybe some anti-seize for reassembly.
