5 year because I was local and planned to meet up with a bunch of my friends there, nothing really changed much but we were starting to diverge
10 year. A good friend I lost touch with traveled a few hours back to town, we didnt know until they found his body swinging the next morning at a park. Someone tried to sell me insurance all night my wifes 20 years (my 19). I knew WAY more people than she knew through sports and activities which was awkward but it was fun seeing people you forgot you forgot. My 20 year everybody was cool with who we had become and we all had a lot more in common than we thought we did in HS. None of my close HS friends from first reunion were there. Skipped my (and her) 30th and not sure I have any reason for another one. |

I haven't been to one but that was due more to never being within a reasonable distance to make an attempt.
That and I am still close with three guys from HS and we get together once a year...they are reunion masters so I get the data dump from them

Been to all of mine except the 5 year. I was still too pizzed to mix alcohol and some of the folks that I seriously disliked during high school. By the 10th, I had matured enough to take a more practical approach and just ignore these folks and just have a good time.
Interestingly, as noted by several here, as the years passed, I actually enjoyed talking with folks that I wasn't particularly tight with and found them to be trying to get thru like like me. 50th was last year. Fun but a bit disappointing as the "departed classmates" list had grown significantly and many of the living folks I hoped to see were not there. I believe the 50th will be my last whether I am here for the 55th or not. Just time to move on and we have a FB page to keep current periodically.

I moved my senior year from Westport, Connecticut to Dunwoody, Georgia, north of Atlanta. The people I met my senior year were ones who also moved their senior year. It was a very clickish environment, as can be expected. Unfortunately, my best friend passed away a couple years ago and the others, I’ve lost track of.
I did not go to the five year, but went to the ten year. Only recognized a few people, had a *****ty time and never went back to another one after that. I have zero interest in what they’re doing. |

Well I was a "bad kid" and got sent to continuation school.
My home room teacher was married to my probation officer. The biggest group from my graduating class that keep in touch are in the Cali state prison system. I send some of them commissary $$$ as an annual gift so they won't hit me up when they get out.

High school was the best 6 years of my life!
There were 52 in my graduating class and I only remember the names of about 10. I swear I never met some of the people at the reunion even though I went to school with them according to the year book. I drove the 911 to my 30th. Got some sideways glances and snide comments. When I went to my 40th I drove my old Tundra and brought a bottle of cheap scotch.

Ha. My "high school" was actually from 7th to 12th grades, so it was a 6-year experience. As seniors, we actually took 2 group class photos for the year book: one with all the kids in our graduating class, and another with just the 6-year club (probably 80-90% of the class).

After further thought...I'll be skipping it. This despite still living in the same town.

Only went to my 20th in 1987. Big class but we got hit hard with the draft lottery in the late 60s and a lot of guys didn't come home from viet nam. Lost my best HS friends.
Did not want to go to any other ones at all.

I know what you mean. In a class of 52 we lost 2, and 2 permanently disabled. I didn't care much about the folks I went to school with, but the guys on the sports teams with me were different. We had a shared experience, even without a bond. When I went to the memorial in Washington I made a point of looking up their names. Brought back a lot of experiences. Hard to believe they were gone before they had a chance to live.

I fall into the group of the not popular crowd. My HS crew was about 3-5 people, none of us were stand outs in anything really and were invisible to girls
Small school, my graduating class was around 150 people. My group spent time riding motorcycles, talking about them, or cleaning them. And we had jobs to get $$ we would spend on them. So chalk me up for another never-been; never-invited; never-will. I was the only one from my group to go to prom though...with a girl! Great evening!

I was numb for a long time and was mad that it was such a waste. When I saw his name on the memorial wall I broke down and cried like a baby. Almost again while typing this. It was just wrong.

I stayed friends with all the people I liked in HS. No need to go to my 20th. I do get told I look exactly the same as in HS, so thats good.

I get told I look exactly as tall as I was in high school. I'm calling that a win!

I went to an all-boys private school and most of us had to travel a fair bit to get to it. Very little socializing went on outside of school due to the distances and we didn’t drive until junior year... if you were lucky to have a car.
HS was where I noticed for the first time that some people had waaay more money than my family did. I had something of a resentment with my parents over having to attend there rather than my local HS with my grammar school friends. I had a rebel without a cause chip on my shoulder that had no basis. In hindsight it was a top school, taught me self reliance, and kept me off the “local” scene. If they have reunions I haven’t heard of them. If I had gone to a normal school I think it would be nice to go.

Over all, did you think going to a school out of your community was a net bad or a net benefit?

Nope. Would only go to see some kid who was picked on (there were several) roll in on his private jet full of hotties, look the place over for 10 seconds and roll back out.
