No help with the heated floor question--I live in LA. But when we remodeled the house, we installed a Moen Velocity rain showerhead. Well worth the $200, everyone agrees.

Our shower switches between a rain shower head, body jets, and a handheld. We use the rain head all the time. My all time favorite handheld is a kohler flipside.

Consider tile niche instead of soapdish or cornershelfs. I did a floating seat like this(not my pic):

Cut multiple "T"s out of 3/4" good quality plywood, sandwiched with the wall studs. Filled in with wood, cement board, water-proofed with schluter and red guard.

Why multiple T’s...for the support of the bench? On the walls, you said you used cement board with the Schluter system then red guard...I assume you mean the Schluter fabric and not the Kerdi board. Why this method instead of Kerdi only? Seems overkill but in all honesty, that is exactly what I plan to do because the Kerdi panels just seems odd to me as I have always used cement board. I was thinking I am just overthinking and old school. We are also doing a steam generator so I want to really make sure the surrounding walls, ceiling and floor are sealed extremely well.
What was the pan made of. I am on a subfloor and will do a Curbless entry so I can only go down about 3/4” and it’s either the Schluter base or the one from VIM...the VIM to me looks more appealing because it is solid polymer and not just styrofoam....I don’t want a hollow sounding floor.

Speaking of water pressure. I like high pressure. But new shower heads all have the 2.5 GPM restrictor in them. It can be either removed, or drilled out.

The trick to higher pressure in the shower is to run 3/4 " pipe, not 1/2"

We always cement board showers, and use the kerdi waterproofing membrane on mud pans and wherever there is potential for leaks like seats. I have not used kerdi board nor pre-formed slopes, we slope the mortar underneath.

I looked at the VIM system, and while they say it meets code, our local inspectors will not accept the liquid waterproofing systems. Not sure I would trust it either, with dissimilar materials on the walls and floor. Also, it's $800 to replace 2 bags of mortar, and less that $100 of kerdi fabric and hardware. You're going to have to replace the concrete you cut out anyway, slope it to the drain and be done. Look at 'screed shower pan' videos on youtube.

As to the bench, I originally used something called better bench. Pure crap, it moved about 1/8" when any pressure was put on it, even after concrete hardened. So I removed it, and framed it right.

Framing, screwed and glued. There is a slope on the "T", it is slightly wider at the wall:

After cement board, Kerdi, and membrane waterproofing.

Yes to heated floor with programable thermostat if you live somewhere that gets a winter, just ordered the parts for our ensuite bathroom, they use about 12w per square foot with the wire at 3" spacing so 100sf is 1200w or 10A. About 1 hr to heat up to set temp, never really checked.

Also have a rain head going in this shower, we had it in the old house and liked it, but also have a hand held shower.

Looking to have a custom 14ga stainless steel base formed, I made one up years ago and really liked it but it stayed with the house we sold, plan to do this one flush with the tiles and sloping back from the doors, slopes down about 1 1/4" ( will mod some subfloor) approx 64" wide 42" deep using two doors. Leakproof and easy to clean.

I wish I had heated floors right now. It is 66 degrees right now and very windy and wet.

My current shower has a regular shower head and a hand held on a rail. All I ever use is the hand held. I’m thinking of putting a two hand helds in the new shower, one up high (I’m 6’1” so 80” or so) and one lower so I can wash the dogs.

Heated floors are awesome. Nothing better. Look into heating the mirror as well and it won't fog up.

how many people just leave it on all the time, verse a timer system. $100-300 thermostat/timers.

We never use our rain-head shower.

And I'm going to follow this thread as I am contemplating adding electric floor heat when we re-tile the master bath.

FWIW, I am currently in the process of installing snow-melt cables in a poured-in-place concrete bench I'm building near my pool - hoping it'll be toasty too!

That's bad advice. The regulator is at the tip of the shower not the pipe. 1/2" is plenty, actually.

I love the floating bench design.

I have heated floors the master bath in our place in the mountains. I love them, especially on cold winter mornings. I just set it to 74 and leave it. It sure is nice for the mornings or late night runs to the john

Our bathroom floors are kept just warm enough not to be cold for bare feet by the central heating pipes running under the tiled floors. We use rain shower heads and have hand held ones too. I do not like walk in shower cubicles, the only two I have ever used have let water out onto the bathroom floor.
We have a separate switch in the en suite bathroom that just puts on one blue led lamp over the toilet so that night visits do not wake up the other bedroom occupant via too much light when the bathroom designoor is opened.

I helped my dad install a Wedi board shower kit in their house a few years ago. It was super easy, and tiling it was a breeze.
Also installed a wire heater element under the floor tile - definitely a must-have.

Love heated floors!

Neither of us liked the rain head showers. It just did not do it for us. Used a steam bath once, I did not like it.

Whatever you do think about putting in hand rails inside the shower, strategically placed and large enough (24 to 36 inches) so they can be easily grabbed. As we get older these start becoming more necessary. After recent surgery I have been exclusively using the bathroom we built specifically for wheelchair access. The handholds have been truly appreciated by family and by me most recently!

Oh, and just to make sure no one other than you likes your shower you can design a mural that you like and install that or have a tile person do it for you. Makes it personal, we enjoy it, but most people just do not like the idea of a mural in the shower. One of my buddies, single, did find a neat mermaid mural that he used. Actually, it looked pretty nice. He hated taking it out..... Ours is a tree.
