What is an "Asian Tiger Mom"...some sort of asinine stereotype of Asian women? Who is the doctor?

Like the previous poster's personal attack, that was pretty underwhelming...like your other posts. Why not try to have an adult conversation like the rest of us?

fintstone (Fred/Freddy) you have in past posts described that while in High School you fell in love with a college female student of Asian decent, got married after your graduation, joined the military, had a daughter that also joined the military and is now a doctor. You have also bragged how both you and your wife made sure your daughter was an academic achiever, hence Tiger Mom and Dad. And who can forget the six houses? Not sure who is worse, you or Hugh.

Quote:

Tiger parenting is a form of strict or demanding parenting. Tiger parents push and pressure their children to attain high levels of academic achievement or success in high-status extracurricular activities such as music, using authoritarian parenting methods.[1] ..............

She will sill probably on on immediately once she is selected (as that is the "replacement for below the zone).

Because anyone that can get into medical school can get someone to pay for it already. There is no canyon for them...as they are among the brightest and best and would "win" regardless.

If you really want to go to med school, however; the best bet is a regular school as College ROTC has a program that essentially sends anyone who can get into med school and gives them a lucrative full ride (however they still have to serve). The big problem with the military is that when you get close to graduating, they get to select your specialty (residencies). If you want to be a surgeon or dermatologist, they might need a family practice doctor more.

Services have long commitments to pay back for school. My daughter has to stay/serve around 11 years (counting residency), although she graduated with no loans and about $20K in the bank (had a scholarship for undergrad and med school). She is not in the specialty she wants, but may apply for another residency in that later if the service agrees. Also, she is in Korea although she would rather be in FL or CA.

Anyone who gets into med school can pretty much find someone who will pay for it (either as a loan or grant or promise to serve in an underserved area) if they are just able to complete their BS and MCAT with strong enough scores and be selected.

Now do you know what I'm talking about?

The only reason I bring this up is because I want to hear what your wife and daughter think of current events as posed by the topic of this thread.

Oh, and like others I call you Fred (once in a while), it seems to be accepted by the moderators as not crossing the line. One moderator suggested that I stop calling you Slick, Slickstone, Spinstone,, Finny, Slick Finny, and trenchcoat fint so I have complied with their wishes.

It happens every time something serious is discussed here. The usual folks can't make a reasonable argument and start name-calling and personal or political attacks until it is sent to PARF. Pretty sad.

...

My name is not Fred or Freddy.

I have never dated an Asian woman...much less married one. It is probably only due to circumstance that I have not...as I married young (in an area where there were quite few).

Yes, I have been in the military and my daughter is a doctor. Yes, she worked hard to get to where she is. After posting here for 20 years, like many, I may have posted a lot of personal details. One would be pretty petty to use them to make a personal attack.

No harm no foul. There are people who call names when their arguments fail. Just ignore them.

This is what I read:

“We certainly are importing children...many, many children. Lots of women and children being trafficked now...and lots more are coming.”

OK. Who is "we"? You and others? Probably not. Govt. policy? That's a stretch. A coyote doesn't import - they transport. Someone in govt.? That's possible. Some entity on our side of the border would import (as the definition of the word implies).

And the term, "trafficking" means the sale of a person to another for whatever purpose the buyer desires.

Wasn't that the entire crux of the allegations against Hillary? Was that what you were referring to?

If you didn't mean that, explain what you really meant.

Thanks

Beyond the news I have a friend who works for HLS with a focus on catching pedo's. Chilling what I hear. But you keep on ignoring.... I get it. It is easier to believe that there is no big problem there. And if your team creates a platform for border-jumping, illegal stays ("sanctuary" cities & States) and all the human smuggling that goes with it, then you go ahead and pat them on the back and say "I have no problem - carry on." Tell yourself it's all just fake news....

Just don't expect me to believe you.

911pcars 03-24-2021 10:02 PM

IMHO, the term "importing" is a matter-of-fact policy. Perhaps you meant "allowing". I understand your POV. I guess I placed more emphasis on words.

I can't recall a more chilling experience for kids who were separated from their parent(s) while crossing the border. That would be a defacto govt. policy to import kids, especially when it was determined the govt. had no mechanisms (no plan) in place to track their location. Why? Sloppy or unbelievably cruel? Beyond that, who knows what happened to them or their parents? Incredible.

Do you know what Mexico does to Americans who cross into Mexico illegally?

meh. You have some notion that the people flooding our border have some sort of right to waltz in and be given a participation trophy.

Just my opinion but I think that racism against Asians in general is because they're successful.
- And I suspect it's much the same everywhere they're a minority.

But what's the most hated "Group" in the Western World right now? = Rich white people.

Just a few examples to both dispel and expand on your theory:

The early Chinese who helped build the transcontinental railroad were dirt poor. They and those who followed had few rights, no citizenship, unequal pay, limited jobs and living areas. Despite some success, discrimination also prevented land ownership and many job opportunities. More success resulted in being excluded from immigration. It was worse for Native Americans.

Outside of slavery (duration, about 230 years), there was a black community in Tulsa who were financially very successful. All that got them was a torched community and dead citizens.

During WWII, Japanese-Americans (citizens mind you) forfeited their property and incarcerated by our govt.

Nope. Minorities that succeed do so in spite of various degrees of racial discrimination.

Those stories are in history books that aren't abbreviated. Examples continue.

The most hated group in the world? Unknown, maybe Nazis and the like. Not sure. There are many most hated individuals for various reasons. I'm pretty certain being an A-hole is a prerequisite. Being rich may be a factor, but not necessary.

You asked the question. That's MHO.

sc_rufctr 03-25-2021 02:19 AM

I'm talking about right now. Just sayin... ;)

sc_rufctr 03-25-2021 02:28 AM

BTW: There are Nazis in Pakistan.

I meant what I posted...not any of the stuff you seemed to claim I posted. You pretty much made up almost all of what you claimed I posted. Was that to make your argument easier...like Kachi posting my life's story, but fantasizing about much of it?

You should probably take a look at the laws regarding human trafficking (or trafficking in persons) as apparently the word (as typically used regarding persons) does not mean what you think it does (not in Federal law).

I have no idea who Hillary (Clinton, Duff, Swank...Edmund?) is or why you introduced her/him into the discussion. Similarly Jan 6th, the previous President, MAGA flag, or a Pizza Parlor in DC. None seem applicable to the discussion in any way.

Obviously, people have made mistakes throughout history (even when they have had good intentions). Yet, people keep coming here and staying, not the other way around...so we must be doing something right.

For almost each of those historical events...there were two sides, yet you only seem to see one (the movie version). It is easy to laundry list complicated events and make implications that may or may not be true. Each could be an entire thread (book) on its own. For example:

Why did the Chinese come to this country to work? Were they brought as slaves? Did they come as immigrants (with citizenship intent/rights) or as foreign workers? Was it better than what they left (like Irish who fled the potato famine and were also poor and treated poorly)? Why did they stay? Were they trafficked? If they were brought here as essentially "slaves" to undercut wages earned by American citizens already here, should their entry have been prevented (to prevent their mistreatment and the resulting crushing effect on wages for the poor)?

Did armed blacks in Tulsa attack whites/local law enforcement and kill a white person before the full scale rioting took place? Did citizens on both sides of the altercation arm themselves and kill each other? Is it different than Kenosha or Minneapolis last summer? Why?

Did any Japanese Americans side with Japan (and actually kill Americans)? Did they seem a credible threat at the time? Is that typical for the time? Did other countries mistreat ethnic minorities in wartime? Did we treat Jews trying to flee Europe worse?

Why were the Germans so easily pulled onto the Nazi path? Was it because they were treated intolerably after WWI by the victors?

All are complex and inconvenient facts largely glossed over by those that have an agenda. None are bumper sticker level ideas/memes.

thor66 03-25-2021 12:34 PM

Fred, the answer to one of your questions is Yes, some Chinese were trafficked - women were brought to SFO to "service" males. You can even visit the alley where they were kept in small cribs.
