I can't say I'd never grab a gun and shoot someone - that would eliminate self defense.

But as others have said, basic morality.

Plenty of ammo out there if you don't mind paying 3x what it cost Jan 2020. Most places have some and reserve to sell 1 or 2 boxes of appropriate caliber to whoever buys a gun.

Ethics, and there are laws against murder.

Also its harder to get a gun up here, and my crossbow takes too long to load.

Selfishness. The paperwork alone would just take too much time.

This is the ammo I use for the ground squirrels.
The average male would think they just ran into a swarm of bees.

I am not mentally ill. Plus I have a hard time killing a spider.....cant even imagine killing a human being.

Why is it our society doesn't address mental illness? Why is it gun violence instead of mental illness violence?
I think we all know the answer......

Generally speaking, because it's wrong, and life is - or at least should be - about doing the right thing.

That said, all bets are off if that "bunch of people" are a genuine threat.

What keeps you from going out and shooting a bunch of people?

all of those political infringements on my rights to bear arms. That's what stops it everywhere.

I am 63 and been a gun owner most of my life . In my early years guns were for hunting and target practice nothing else . As crime increased the picture enlarged to include self defense . I don't think but certainly don't know that I would have an issue with shooting an intruder to my home . A threat to me or my wife in our home is the scenario , if an intruder is outside on our property I would call the police but keep armed/ready .

I believe I was raised right and believe life is a precious thing not to be wasted . But I was also raised to defend myself from harm , that can be as simple as a phone call or exiting the situation or pulling the trigger if need be . While my wife may disagree I believe I am a rationale male with no voices in my head . Introduce mental illness into the scenario and it's a whole different picture .

Pretty much the ammo shortage is why!

...and this.

Pretty simple. Throw in the other thing most of us USED to be taught at home, school, and possibly church: the golden rule: treat others as you'd want to be treated (or love thy neighbor, or any variation of that).

If you prefer a secular version of this, how about this: don't be a total dick.

Now self defense or legit military conflict is a totally different story.

I'm not that good of a shot . Because, we are all basically, good at heart, and would rather help than harm someone.
We know it is wrong, and the consequences are huge ( either death, or life in prison )
I was also raised with Christian values , and thou shalt not kill is one of the tenants of that . What would I possibly have to gain from killing another human ? Unless, I am robbing them , to which the consequences rule applies once again

I believe commandment #6 means to not murder people. War and self defense are covered in another book where it says a time to kill a time to heal.

I think most people born and raised in a good home will have no problem not going on a spree. Some people have drug issues, some have mental issues and some have anger issues that allows them to go against how they were raised. Others were just not raised.

I have always maintained that will never be suicidal...homicidal perhaps, but never suicidal. Committing a mass murder is the last act of a desperate individual, and suicidal in nature, there isn't too much chance he is coming out alive !

This outcome would be more desirable than a lifetime in prison also.

If I kill something, then I will have eat it. I don't think human taste too good. No, I don't eat bugs but I kill them all if I see them.

But you just don't know for sure. Pork is pretty tasty to most folks, ham, bacon, etc..., and human's are supposed to be very similar to pork.
