have you ever been bitten by a dog?

me twice. same doberman P.

i would tell the old lady that raised them, "Pat, i dont think your dog likes me, can you put her away?"

"Oh she's fine. "

"ow".

she would call me to help her lift things or fix things. her dogs hated my ass. most times they would just flank me and stare with those devil beady eyes.

i am not counting the times my own adopted elderly cairn Terrier tried to take a chunk out of me. we came to an amicable solution. he wants me to stop petting him, i stop.

Yep, family dog as a baby and the injury required a bit surgery. Still have a scar on the corner of my mouth. The dog was rehomed immediately.

Many times. "The dog whisperer" is a good series to watch.

The safest thing if barking is to always ignore them at first and turn away slightly. Let them approach you when they get your scent and settle down. Never look the strangers straight in the eye.

We have some friends whose daughter has known our daughter since kindergarten. She is like another daughter to us kind of. She now has a son, 18 months old. They have a dog that is very pit bull like. I worry about her son and that dog. I think they got it as a rescue dog. I will admit to hating that dog from the day I met it. It is short and squat and can tear a tennis ball up in no time. I don't trust it, but there's no telling them that.
I once worked with a tech whose son was mauled by a dog as a youngster. She said it ruined having a dog for them as a family for life.

I was a paperboy for a couple years. I got bit more than once, usually by some little rat of a terrier. Never once by a German Sheppard (evil dog if the 80’s), pit bull, doberman, Rottweiler… not even once.

In my experience, it’s the little dogs that bite. The big dogs let you know if they don’t want you there and you can read them. The little mitts are like cowards and seem like they are friendly and them bite.

Standard Poodle and a Golden Retriever were the only ones that were of any significance

Nipped by small dogs a number of times.

I got cornered in a cul-de-sac on my paper route by a German Shepard in the 80s

Never forget the how that dog looked.

Another paperboy here.

There was one house that had a big Shepherd mix that would lay on the porch watching the World go by. Nothing seemed to bother him except people who threw newspapers up on the porch. That paper would no sooner land, he would leap up and tear after you jumping and nipping.

He got me once but after that I would always swing the newspaper carrier bag around so there were ample papers behind me to protect my ass!

The first time I was aged about six or seven - still have the scars. Back in those days it was "You stupid kid! for God's sake what did you do to annoy that dog."

Various times since. If a dog attacks my or a friends dog I go in, so hence I've got a few scars here and there LOL

Yep. And it was also a Doberman, I was in the "woods". A girl and a guy were "walking" they dog. And it ran over and chomped on my thigh. Left a good sized double bruise. Fortunately, I was wearing jeans, so no broken skin. I think I was around 10-12.

It's quite hard to think of at the time. But if you get bitten/attacked by a dog. pull it's front leg out sideways.

Yes, by mistake and the dog instantly regretted it.

I could tell for years after that she was sorry.

Just this last years spring...I was in my yard cleaning up some small tree limbs. There was still some snow on the ground, so I was wearing muck/bog boots.
Next door neighbors daughter decided to visit her mother and brought her 1 year old pit bull.
The dog saw me, about 100 ft away and took off like a bullet and latched on to my ankle. If I hadn't had those thick rubber boots on...I'm sure he would have drawn blood.

The daughter came running over shouting "No...stop that" When she was next to the dog..it released. Then she picked it up and said "Bad Boy"

My ankle was sore for a few days.

Pit bulls are nothing but trouble.

Yup, when I was 5. Our German Shepherd, which we gave to the police dept a year prior. Was visiting us, I was standing behind my mom and she was behind the dog, no idea why but dog whipped around and got me on the left temple right next to my eye. 23 stitches.

Dad and I beat the cop to the hospital - by more than a couple of minutes. Think he really enjoyed having an excuse to push the 356 to the limits to get to the ER across town....

What is weird is I have a pic of me riding on the dogs back like he was a horse when I was 2 or so....

1984, we were canvassing door to door for new home delivery milk customers. I had just finished at a house and walked through the back yard to the neighbor's house. There was a shepardish dog chained to the shed. I stopped to pat and talk to him and walked up to the door to knock. When my knuckles hit the door casing, I felt a blow on my left calf like the impact of a baseball bat. I turned to see the dog slinking away.
The folks offered first aid, iodine for the puncture wounds and bandages. The hour and a half drive home on my bike was a challenge. Never had an infection but did worry about blood clots for a few days.

Best

Have had a few bites, only one that required a doctor and that was, similar to Nostril's, and accident. Our rescue had some triggers when we first got him, some sort of colourful history before us. After messing around with him for a while play fighting, he retired to his dog bed. I had to move it a foot to access a cabinet, made the mistake of doing it with him on it, from behind. He whipped his head around to object and caught me under the jaw with his bottom teeth. 11 stitches later, the worst part of it was meddling doctors insisting my dog had attacked me. Until the oldest doc showed up, and berated the others for failing to notice there was only damage from the bottom teeth, so clearly no bite.
You could tell he regretted it to his last day, poor guy I think it was harder on him than me.

I don't remember ever being bitten by a dog. My grandparents had a German shepherd that was super protective of them, but especially my grandmother. If my grandfather moved too quickly around my grandmother, the dog would grab his hand (more of a grab than a bite). They had friends who were bit by the dog. I moved really, really slowly around the dog or would ask my grandfather to hold on to it if I needed to move around.

I used to deliver news papers on foot and occasionally on a bicycle. I dropped them off super early, so rarely ran into a dog when I was delivering but I did have what I think may have been a boxer mix come through a screen door at me once when I was trying to collect. When I got home, my receipt book had teeth-marks in it. I would occasionally run into that dog when delivering, but it would be chained to a tree, so I was able to stay at chain's length and be safe.
