After school I would cash them in at the Zippy Mart, buy a few Whacky Packs . ![]() ![]() ![]() And save the rest of the money and on Sunday mornings, while my parents were sleeping in , I’d hop on my bicycle, and ride a couple of miles to Zayres https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zayre And buy these really cool little cars. I had to hide them because, 1), I wasn’t supposed to ride that far from home. 2), I wasn’t allowed to cross multi lane roads, yet, here I am crossing a couple to go buy my beloved Hot Wheels. And I can’t walk into a store without checking out the Hot Wheels. But I buy what I like, I don’t look for the Treasure Hunt and the collectible ones, just what appeals to me. When I was younger, I’d buy 2 of each one I liked, that way I could play with one and save the other. So I guess you could say my 1st taste of defiance and independence, since the money to buy them didn’t come from my parents.

Trying to consolidate my 1/43 collection under one roof so I can take a stock check and start designing a display cabinet
This is 2/3rds of my cars, need to find, round up the other 1/3rd and work out which ones I still need to buy ![]()

Cap't. Ahab, being able to buy scale models of the race cars you worked on is just so bonkers.
I know that that steering wheel is your white whale, but still, all those iconic race cars with your fingerprints somewhere on each one. Sublime.

I am searching for a Hotwheels Race Day Roxy Porsche GT3 R 992, this is the one with the purple paint scheme . These are selling for ridiculous money and I will never pay stupid money for a toy car . Hoping to find someone that has one laying around and doesn't care about it .
Last night I bought the green Rexy version online , for whatever reason these can be found for less than 20 bucks . I have been casually collecting hot wheels over the years and have them hanging in my man cave . I just like them as man cave decorations .

$25k. Nice, Super nice in fact, but I think the engine bay and wheels could use some detailing washes for that last little bit of 'pop'.

Many (most?) diecast companies have not included tobacco liveries since the early 1990s. Liability, I guess. Anyway, I added the proper Marlboro decals to a 1:43 McLaren MP4/2B today. I should sleep better tonight

I’m not a huge collector but, I do have a number of ‘68-70 Redlines. The Deora was my first Redline growing up. I’ve collected them in a full rainbow. Also, have a full rainbow of 917s. I rotate them out to keep me company in my home office.

I had one of the original Deora's, which, being a child, I played with it until it was totally destroyed. Then in 1994, I bought a "Exclusive Series II" replacement for 1.99. Still have it in the original packaging. I'd bet it's worth upward of 1.99!
(Slight tangent, I also had the original 1/24 AMT Deora plastic kit from the sixties. That was the pinnacle of design for me as a kid. Being a child, I destroyed that car.)

I only have three of my original redlines and they’re beat to $hi!. Lol. So, I decided to ‘collect’ replacements of the ones I had. Still need to get the Mongoose and Snake dragsters.

Boy, If I could have had the foresight to keep two of my HotWheels' pristine back in the day, I think those might be the ones. They had the little clip on wheelie bars. So cool, and Don Prudhomme was my hero. Mom grudgingly let me display my Monogram model of The Snake's Barracuda funny car on her piano. Top flipped up to display that Buttera chassis and Hemi motor.
HotWheels sponsoring the Snake and Mongoose was absolutely genius marketing. (I Love the idea of rotating 917's to keep your desk decor from going stale!. Maybe I should do something like that)

Yep, with the Chutes! Dad was a Navy vet so, naturally McEwen (The Mongoose) was my fave. I built the funny car model back in the day too. I didn’t have the Hot Wheels Funny Car set but, maybe I should get those to go with the dragsters! Come to think of it, I should see if I can get the original funny car model to go into my ‘Closet of Retirement’.
