I had kittens as a kid. One chased the other, who jumped onto a piano bench and then ran up the keyboard. The sound was comical. The chasing kitten made it halfway up the keyboard but was scared by the sound and stopped in its tracks. The sound the piano made was exactly the sound you'd hear in a movie if someone were startled.

We started petting them at 7 to 10 days. We’ve been picking them up regularly for a week to socialize them. They would instantly start to cry the first few times, now they’re happy about it until they decide they want down. Mia can be snoozing in another part of the room and comes running when they make the first squeak.

Patrick, what are they living in now ? Are they still in a box or did they need lebensraum ?
I picked up a 36" long x 13 x 20 clear tote today,. I am thinking of moving them into it unless it is already too late. Otherwise I will have to enclose the bottom of the bed.

Their immediate environment is a plastic under-bed storage container, about 30x20x5" tall. ![]() I put it inside a 5'x3' dog "playpen" we had around here because they are starting to climb over the 5" wall of the storage container. Yesterday one was halfway out and I expect to see one or more go over the wall in the next day or two.

They are fun when kittens. I went without kittens for about 30 years. When I was a kid, our stray, Whiskey, had 9? litters. Too many to recall. She was the neighborhood whore, a calico. She wasn't shy at all, on the neighbors front lawn in broad daylight, wherever, for all eyes to see.
We handled them within a day or so of being born, same with our stray's litters in the last 1 1/2 years, I think earlier is better if you plan to keep them. We did, her first litter was 3, one went to live elsewhere. Unfortunately, the two we kept of the first litter were done in by cars, on different occasions, on the same day. I witnessed the second. She made 4 more, and we kept one. Quickie (momma) is my girl, she is like a dog, she actually listens and minds, greets me at my car when I come home, prefers to be outside, and also follows me around when I'm outside. The other is the opposite. Cool times!

I got Shrapnel when he was 8 weeks old, I had hoped my girl cat would become surrogate mother but she was naaaawt impressed, the little chit was way to much for her and she ran off.. as it progressed she was initially good at running off and jumping out of reach, but as he grew up she soon found out she could no longer out run or out jump him
Granmpa cat on the other way, didn't run.. he was 20.. I had worried he would be jealous as he's always been jealous of the other cats, but he wasn't and he rejuvenated.. He didn't run when the kid pounced, and instead pummeled his uncoordinated ass. At first i heard a lot of screaming like Granmpa was being murdered, but on closer inspection he seems to enjoy himself, he was just very vocal in his cat-fu moves. Bruce liee WEOOOOAAAAAaaiiiiiiiiii , that kind of screams but cat. As it progressed, the kid got better, stronger, and now grandpa is glad when the kid is out to hunt.. finally some rest. He's a bit weary of the kid at times, but they are buds. This was exactly 1 year ago ![]() today with grampa ![]() They are just great at that age... He was 600 gram, now he's closer to 4 kilo. He is master of his domain, caught his first rabbit 2 days ago

Well, the move didn't go as planned. We used a child's playpen and a kiddie pool (for kitten retention) in a different room. What could go wrong ?
Lucky (momma cat) would not come into the room after we moved the kittens into the pool in a playpen. She would call to them and they would mew back, but she wasn't buying into the idea. So we got her into the room with treats and closed the door for them to sort it out. After a while my wife went to check on them and Lucky had taken Tink to a neutral corner of the room to nurse. By this time Meow Yin was stsrting to cry a little from hunger. So, my wife just picked her up and placed her with momma cat. They are all fine and dandy now. The playpen now divides the room roughly in half. One side for momma and her brood, the other half is my wife's office. Neither party seems unhappy with the result. Tink is the tabby and Meow Yin is the albino ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Boy, you have a hard headed, protective mom on your hands. Glad the 5 of you were able to sort things out. The little ones are cute little guys, and very photogenic. Thanks for the pictures!

It's been a year since the kittens came into our lives. Initially we were going to find homes for them after they were spayed, neutered, and had their shots. One day led to the next, and now it's been a year and they are still with us. They've made our lives so much richer, it's hard to imagine we once thought we wouldn't want them.
They sleep in the chicken barn and spend their mornings in the woods hunting. Afternoons are for lying around the yard, napping, and getting pets and ear scratches from their humans. Their names have changed. "My" kittens, Townes and Lavon, still have their original names. Vicki renamed the yellow tabby is Artemis P. Kat and the black boy is 'Mokie (technically Smokey). ![]() The gray tabby is Townes - the first born. She loves attention, but only if she comes to you for it. Otherwise, she likes to be left alone. Artie is the yellow tabby. He is the most loving and wants to be carried around while you scratch his belly. ![]() 'Mokie is mellow around people and a good hunter. ![]() Lavon gets along with people but would rather be out hunting. She is the terror of the local wildlife.

Nice ! Yesterday was "my" kittens birthday ! Tink and Boz (renamed Meow Yin) They are doing great too. Boz is just like your Artie, friendly and lovable. Tink is much more reserved, like her mother. Ours are indoor cats with no desire to go outside.

Watch out for the damn Coyotes! We had a nice Cat family of 5.....now down to 2. They got picked off 1 by 1. And it seemed to happen in the early fall.... We live in the country (SW Ohio) and the coyotes are so brazen. I see them in the morning and early evening. I set up a trail cam and they routinely circle our house and barns looking.....

Great story! Oliver was adopted as a young cat after my boy Toby died young of lymphoma. He also loves to be carried around and have a good belly scratch. He is very loud until you comply.

About a week after we lost Maddie (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/1122552-maddie.html) we started seeing a black and white cat off in the bushes behind the house. We put food out for it and sat on the porch talking to it for a few minutes every evening. She started coming closer, a foot or so every night. She is very, very skittish and bolts at the slightest movement. Long story short after 3 weeks she comes when we call her for dinner and is coming closer and closer to us. Tonight I put the food by my feet and she crept up very warily, but did get within 6 inches of me and sat down to eat. She'll be eating out our hands in a week or so. She is a beautiful little Tuxedo Kitty, so we call her KT.
It is so gratifying to see this terrified little creature learn to trust us. I think she showed up because she sensed a vacancy after Maddie left us. We are assuming it is a "she" and hoping she isn't pregnant.

You guys ROCK!!!!! We rescued a KitKat that was ferrel on our property when we were slammed by a freak 24” of snow. Did not see her for days until I went for a hike up our hill. Found her hunkered down on a log just above the snow. I bent down and put my head close to her’s. He gave me the slightest of head bumps. I brought her inside and she lived out her years being one of the most affectionate kitties we have ever been adopted by. We too trapped her early on and had her fixed a few years before this event.
