My area averages 4 inches of rain in September. Yesterday 7 inches fell. We were spared the wind.

I am going to continue to be a jackass... ty for assigning that honor to me..

NYC is roughly 1350 miles from the initial landfall of Ida..

So far there are 20 dead from the impact of this storm on the Tri-State area

Philly was hammered, the Schuylkill way overcrested the banks.. All the little rivers in Westchester are flooded. Saw Mill, Bronx River, Hutch..

I87 has been closed near I95 since last night.. One of the busiest trucking routes in the country

https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/heres-what-made-the-new-york-city-flooding-so-devastating/ar-AAO2fQC?ocid=hplocalnews&li=BBnb7Kz

I guess the question should be, why does anyone live on the east coast?

We were stopped in Virginia for the night on our way back from Ida. Was having dinner. About 730 we got the call about the tornado in Mullica. We immediately got reactivated and had to leave. Soon as we hit the Delaware bridge we were told we werent needed there. One of our recon teams was there. Locals had it covered. About an hour later on our way back to home base, started getting the notifications about the counties along the Delaware. We shot up to Somerset with our water rescue units and started pulling people out of cars and houses. Spent the last two days and nights in Somerset , Hunderton and sent a crew to Elizabeth for flooding and multiple collapses. Was a bunch of bodies pulled out of vehicles and houses
Never seen anything like it up in our area. Flooding was worse than hurricane Sandy. They are predicting a few of the rivers to over-crest tonight with more severe flooding. Still some people missing. Not good.

Pulled someone out of that fully submerged car on the left a few hours earlier. The one in front, pulled a woman out half hour before the pic was taken. Hour later both cars were completely submerged. Water rose that fast .

Thank you Vin.

I haven't seen flood damage like this since Floyd in '99 and (I think it was Dorian?) in the 70's.

Roads with pavement upheaved around me, and the water was strong enough to move 12"+ rocks into the roadway.

Could have surfed down our street.

Drove right into the eye of the storm from SE PA to Princeton, NJ to get the wife to a critical eye surgery scheduled weeks in advance. Jesus! Should have canceled it and rescheduled. Driving carefully at 50 MPH on the PA turnpike (limit was 70) and unexpectedly running into 8 or 10 inches of water. Holy hydroplaning! Lots of detours and white knuckle moments. We made it to the hotel Wednesday night and the hospital the next day but I know it was a bad decision to make the drive. We were lucky. Many people were not. Surgery went well and the drive home today was much better.

Holy smokes. It’s hard to believe that the storm carried that much water all the way across the entire country.

Glad you made it through that. Driving in that rain was brutal!
