Good luck to all that will be affected by this beast of a storm.

Here's hoping that the improvements made are able to protect those that couldn't get out.

It’s continuing to strengthen, winds at 150, gusting to 165. Growing stronger to write a few storms have, probably because of the high water temperatures in the gulf. In some areas, those temperatures are approaching 90°.
This thing has gone from “maybe going to be a a cat three” to possibly one of the strongest ever to make landfall in the area. I bet a bunch of people didn’t take this on as seriously as they needed to. God help them. |

This thing went from a category two to almost a category five in about five hours.

Don't forget Tornado Alley. Cold/blizzards up north. The entire gulf and east coast, hurricanes. It's also beautiful, temperate, full of natural resources, fertile, and has plenty of access to shipping and distribution (inbound and outbound). Some areas get a lot of flooding. The people that you read about that live at the base of volcanos often do so because it's the most fertile ground and they are poor, so when things are safe, it's the most productive and gives them the best standard of living.

As of the moment, 5:30 CST, it seems that Ida is in no hurry and has just really slowed down now that it is on land. It is still a cat 4 with 130 mph winds and 160 mph gusts. Good luck to all those in it's path.

The latest says it is moving NNW at 10 mph and is 5 miles SE of Houma, La, which is west of New Orleans.
