That was a serious question. What's the point?

My town is peppered with "safety cameras" that are constantly collecting revenue for the Gumbit.

0-60 in 2 second... Great but at 3 seconds you've lost your licence.

An important point sans cameras is the noiseless aspect.
There are people that get upset when they hear a car accelerate.
With the Tesla, what they don't hear, they don't know.

One reason for roller coasters is the fun of acceleration and G forces.

No doubt the Tesla can provide a lot of fun acceleration from most any stop with clear roads. I got a ride in the Taycan Turbo S and it is a brutal force.

It is just an insane amount of money to spend for some fun. If ya got the cash to spare, go for it. I have better things to do with my money.

I have, many times over the years, both when I was younger and older had people yell at me from yards and shake their fists when I was going the speed limit because a car sounded more sporty. I've had those same folks whip past in their hondas and toyotas and oldsmobiles going 10+mph over the speed limit, but hey, their cars are quiet.

part of the plaid absurdity is how fast it can be in regular conditions. People have clocked mid 9s on the street just flooring it without putting it in warm up or launch mode. These 9 sec big turbo drag radial nitrous cars would get absolutely obliterated by one on a normal street conditions.

I was chatting with my non- car buddy the other day about how fast the car really is. He knows my exige to be a relatively quick car. I told him plaid would be going 100mph right about when I reached 60 and would be doing over 150mph well before I could get to 100.

It really is just crazy-absurd fast for what it is. I think maybe too fast. Unfortunately I fear some people are going to get themselves in trouble and cause some harm as more of these hit the road. I hope I am wrong, but I can just see it: little jonny borrowed moms plaid to take his friends to the movie, he was cruising 70 on the freeway and floored the car for 4 seconds and was doing 150 and ran into a school bus.

There have always been crazy fast cars for the context but never quite this accessible.

This reminds me of the muscle car era back in the day. Suddenly, HS kids with part-time jobs had access to fast cars with primitive brakes, tires and suspension. And little-to-no safety features to speak of either. It was a lethal combination for many.

Fortunately, the kid working at the hardware store probably won't be springing for a new plaid. The car's stiff price tag should keep them a bit more scarce, but Tesla's lower-priced models are crazy fast too. And buy-in costs for this level of performance will drop as more cars hit the pre-owned market too.

The power/speed potential of BEVs is enormous, and I agree that lots of hyper-fast cars in inexperienced hands could eventually lead to problems.

LOL, No, it is not.

It's a sleeper sedan for those looking for EV status.

It’s today’s car for people who want to walk into a dealership and buy the fastest thing on the road irrespective of their driving capabilities or inconveniences incurred. Definitely similar even when conspiracy sorts project their weird feelings toward a technology onto a situation.

We have a regular Tesla Model S show up at our autocross. It does good times and it is just weird to see it just take off with mostly tire noise. Especially before and after some really loud Mustang or Camaro blasts off with a lot of racket.

I really think in 10 or 15 years most of the gas powered cars on the road, and our beloved 911s will be hobby cars only. Like the horse of the early 1900s, they were replaced with internal combustion cars, and horses became 99.98% hobby playthings and no more work. Our ICE cars will become weekend and hobby toys and electric will rule the roads. We are going to need several hundred large power plants to to provide all the electricity. Hopefully not coal plants but something clean, like nukes.

Automobiles and powered tractors came about in the mid 1800's.
In the early 1900's gasoline autombiles were outnumbered by electric automobiles.
The change to automobiles and tractors was already going on.
Horses are still air breathers that combine oxygen from the atmosphere with hydrocarbons "in the tank" to produce energy.
What caused the proliferation of gasoline cars was inventions related to cost and ease of use.

I'm not seeing any tech on the horizon that makes a similar leap in ease of use or cost from where we are now. Hybrids or direct drive can still take advantage of electronic stability control, launch control, etc...(Decreased cost of solar would increase practicality in short range low use vehichles in particular.)

The O2 in CO2 has over two and a half times the mass of a carbon molecule.
The O in H2O has about eight times the mass of two hydrogen molecules.
Combustion engines(and horses) get to pull that from the air as they go.

Now personally I would rather have a Tesla Plaid than a Mclaren 765.
But I would rather still have a Pagani Zonda if I were spending stupid money on a car.

The McLaren can do 150 mph for an hour & a half easy. The electric car, maybe three minutes.

One of my clients had a 997GT3. He sold it and bought a Tesla P100D. Three months later he was back in a 997TT. I asked why passed on the P100, his answer was one word, "Boring".
