Building a high powered home stereo… Audiophiles help..

May look into a Yamaha M-85 to power the DX9s

I understand the magnets on the DX9 weighs 25 to 30LBS alone.

While these are efficient speaks bass eats lots of power really fast.

I’m going to use my Pioneer D1S coupled with the Yamaha M-85 I believe may go a different direction.

I listen to mostly 70s rock Clapton 80s rock Van Halen, Clapton, ACDC and 90s Alt ect.

These Cerwin Vegas were made to for full throttle 70s/80s/90s rock. I’ve never experienced JBL on anything other jazz/rap/adult contemporary (Ugg) anyhow I somehow think JBLs may start to struggle on the upper end with loud, powerful rock but never really heard JBLs at full tilt. Especially with hard rock ect. Easy listening yes they sound quite nice and warm.

I know JBL 4343 studio monitors from the 70s are supposed to be amazing sounding speaks but have never seen these belting out hard 70s 80s 90s rock in reviews only easy listening… R&B…

I built a pair of JBL L300 clones using all the authentic JBL drivers a long time ago and I can assure you they can crank out rock to silly sound levels without effort, I can still remember the sound of Pink Floyd cranked up through them, and that was with a Luxman R1070 75w receiver. I really would like to hear a pair of L300's with my current amps.

I see, I haven't ever heard McIntosh but was curious if it was yours.

Old Mark Levinson 333 and a 332. They do have a reputation for bad capacitors, likely due for a new set soon.

In my case, there's no replacement for displacement.

If you want to go loud and keep it sounding good the room becomes the problem pretty quickly. That and failing components, LOL, one of my sub's quit working last week, manufacturer no longer repairs, likely a small capacitor rattled itself apart will need to remove and start checking.

The room is 80% of the problem, no matter what gear you use. I see lots of impressive gear and 99% of the time I can tell you that the sound is crap, because they paid no attention to the room itself.

They are Klipsch Jubilee's.
The amps are 325 at 8 ohm.
There is 1 amp channel for each of the horns, and 1 amp channel for each of the bass bins.
There are 2 Sunfire Tru Subs rated at 1200W each.
The driver crossovers are done in a Xilica XP4080 DSP.
As Roy, the Designer at Klipsch says, "they sound OK".
Its not all about loud, its about efficiency and dynamics.
But yeah, they can play loud.

So you have 4 channels each running at 325 watts rms?

For a total of 1300 watts rms?

Impress setup. I can only imagine how those horns sound lit up!!!

I’ve had to rebuild a few receivers. Recently I had my D1S completely overhauled. Now kicking around paying 2Xs higher the going rate for a Yamaha M 85 for a completely reconditioned unit. Just to save the hassle of contacting and endless emails, logistics to get these aging audio devices repaired.

One reason I would not recommend the amp's I am using to anybody without warning, getting to be old and is quite overcomplicated, factory service is still available but pretty sure it starts at $750 and up from there. Paradigm wants $3k for a replacement amp for my sub, I will be attempting to fix myself, have had pretty good success rate in the past, at worst add external amp.

Are you pretty sure about the M85? there are lots of very good amps in that range Mc Cormack DNA1, also a little higher power and cost BAT VK500.

Just had a friend pick up a BAT VKD5SE CD player in need of repair for me, being shipped out soon, always wanted to listen to one, another item to fix.

Please explain to how the QSC amp works with a conventional stereo receiver like Pioneer D1S?

Simply like any other amp? Just run line out of the receiver into the amp?
