Heck no. Too much money for insurance and maintenance. I still have my Cessna 182. Cheap and easy.

I miss flying but I'm making more money in the management side. Money isn't everything, so I will work to get my medical back ... but I doubt I will go back to the pilot side. Just fly my Cessna for S&G. Or maybe post-maintenance flights & repositioning flights for the company helicopter.

I spoke to the people at www.leftseat.com
They told me to expect the process to take 6 to 8 months. Time to gather documentation from all of the doctors that were involved in my care, and then processing time from the FAA side.

This thread seems to have died, but I have not.

I have moved into a non-flying management role with a helicopter EMS outfit in Nevada, working both remotely and monthly rotations on-site. And I still work the Kuwait side-gig.
Another orbit completed today.

I left the EMS company on Feb 4th of this year ... 13 months with the company. The company is owned by two nurses and a PA. The two nurses have no FAA licenses or training, and the PA has a private pilot license. They continually underfunded the maintenance department because maintenance does not bring in revenue. That was annoying. But the last straw was when the CEO directed me to have the team break regulations ... specifically they leased a different make/model helicopter that we had no technical manuals on, and the CEO insisted that we place it into service.

I filed a report with the FAA. There were some follow-up phone calls, but ultimately I think nothing came of it. (AFAIK, though, the helicopter is still not operational.)

So, almost 6 months later I can say that I have no regrets over leaving that operator. I've been spending time at the beach, or working on my dirt-bike, or whatever I want to do. And I still do parts and equipment for Kuwait, so I still have some income.

That company (leftseat) took a chunk of money from me and did absolutely nothing to help me with getting my flight medical renewed. I have a call scheduled for tomorrow with an FAA doctor for a consultation. Worst case, I have to wait a while longer. The three year reporting period for most of my stuff will pass in March 2027.

Not sure if I am even employable as a pilot, trying to get back into the pilot seat at age 58.

Rumor made it to me that we have lost at least one Pelican since my last visit.
I hope the rest of you guys/gals are still doing well.

Once again when you are tired of trying to do everything yourself, let me know if you want an expert to help. I went into A-Fib (heart issues) about six years ago and this doctor had my FAA 1st class medical back in my hands in 5 weeks, something that usually takes 6 months. He is a real expert at special issuances!

Glad you got it worked out!
IDK if you are old enough for Agent Orange, but it gets credit for all sorts of heart issues.

I missed being in VN by one year, but almost all of my friends were there and/or exposed to Orange. Some of them even sprayed the crap, one of them being in the "Blue Stars" the 48th AHC.

Well, there's still the Tobra conversation. Did someone say something to piss him off?

There are quite a few 914 guys that once played here but retreated back to what might be the 3rd or forth iteration of 914 World. Guys like Steve Stromberg were characters, for better or for worse. Couple of thieving scammers too. I think the law caught up with one. Maybe I won't mention names.

Sorry you had to do that job. I missed VN as well but it was just circumstantial. I lost friends as all of us our age did. Sure makes one wonder and appreciate.

I appreciate it Joe ... To be honest, while I was employed as the DOM at the HEMS operator, I really wasn't too concerned about the medical. Now that they are behind me, I have been looking for my next landing spot.

Let me see what this AME tells me later today.

For Afterburn....

This was me spraying dibrom for mosquito control in 2020.

Though nowhere near the same as flying in VN or spraying agent orange, thought you may like the photos.

Cashflyer, glad to hear you are doing OK. We have a Cessna 182T and I would never say it was cheap and easy. I guess compared to a helicopter it is.

I see the occasional Med-flight helicopter crash and it is always tragic. I can't imagine them wanting to skimp on maintenance on any aircraft, and especially a chopper.

He hasn't posted since Feb, but he's still lurking as of 10 days ago, so that's good.

Dunno, but his last post was Dec 18 last year, and it seems he hasn't logged in since a couple of weeks after that. Maybe he made a New Years resolution...
