Almost 600 houses that were homes yesterday morning are gone. I had my garage burn down back in July. That feeling has to be nothing compared to My entire subdivision burn down. Being less than a 1/4 mile from the mandatory evacuation zone, with 50 mph winds was an uneasy feeling. Joe Bob. as the comedian Gary Mule Deer said: If we all had the same taste, you'd all be after my old lady.

I am a BIG fan of Colorado.
Lived there in 1988 as a Grad student until I flamed out. Had a 73 K5 and drove all over skiing, hiking, exploring. It is one of the best states I have been to. Certainly top 5. Tragedy is everywhere. The media exploits this. |

BTW, I have kayaked a lot of rivers in Colorado...so long ago the first time was with my Dad, both of us in fiberglass boats.
While it is crowded on the eastern slope, it is a remarkable State. I wish you all the best, Folks.

I really hope the general population here in So Cal takes notice of what happened in Boulder.
If something like this ever gets started here, in the city, during a Santana wind event, there'll be a lot more than 600 homes lost.

I've spent lots of time in CO skiing and biking. I went a couple years ago to bike the Glenwood Springs to Aspen trail.
It's a great state...will be back for more biking this summer. (skiing days are over)

Wild fires and strong winds are scary.
Prayers and good luck to anyone and everyone there. Losing your home and stuff is horrible, but as long as you get out alive, you can start a new stuff collection.

Is Colorado hell on Earth?
This is terrible and coming from a community that was and still is heavily impacted by a horrible fire (Camp Fire 18,000 structures burned) I really feel for these folks. I don’t give a crap whether you’re a liberal or a conservative, none of that nonsense means anything. Colorado is a beautiful place. I really feel for them right now.

We're in Golden, ten miles south of Superior. My closest friend's office is in Superior and he has upwards of 40 employees who live in the devastated area. He's still waiting to learn how they fared. Chances are high that many lost everything. When I saw how, and how quickly the fire grew, I quickly understood just how easily this could have happened in my own neighborhood. There but for the grace of God, as they say. The thought that something that would normally be viewed as "just a grass fire" (and likely was in the early stages yesterday) could wrought such devastation is quite sobering. High winds here are certainly not unusual. But sustained winds of 40-50 mph (with gusts over 100 mph in some areas, and only 70-80 throughout the area) for many hours straight, combined with the current extreme drought conditions made for a very dangerous partnership. Life has offered us good fortune, part of which is a lovely 5,000 sqft home. With no more kids at home, we're going to offer our 1,800 sqft basement to a family in need. Depending on how long they might need to get their feet under them, this could delay our own retirement plans, but I can't very well spend my kids' entire lives telling them life is about doing the right thing ... and then not be willing do it myself when a neighbor is in desperate need. And I was so looking forward to selling our home and retiring on Lake Norman NC this spring. C'est la vie. _

Company sent out a email a few hours ago, most of my co-workers are based out of our Boulder off and live in this area. While everyone is safe a few of my co-workers have lost their homes. We are all donating in our own ways, some financial, some with housing, some with other needs.
