Hooray! We're positive you're negative but don't presume you are.

My issue is, I have antibodies still, and the mean duration for antibodies after you've had covid is like 22 months. Which is way better stats than the vaccine. So why doesn't any government or institution make allowances for those who have the (longer lasting) antibodies obtained from actually having caught the flippin virus?

My son had it two months ago. He has it now. We have the tests and he has the symptoms to back it up. What I’m learning is that we don’t know shyt about this thing.

This was a mistake. The levels drop off. There is a half-life. But below a certain point, it is not "immunity". You don't get 22 months of immunity. And the immunity is only true for the original variant. Against Delta, you have to have a much higher antibody level for the vaccine to produce "immunity" against Delta, which is why we needed boosters. And with Omicron, it is so different, that there basically isn't cross immunity. You get the "help" that the body "knows what to do", which prevents getting a bad case (hospital/death).

The same is true for cross immunity between strains. The more different it is, the less likely cross immunity exists. You got the original, you can get delta and you can get omicron. But you are not likely to go to the hospital.

Not saying you're wrong James, I'm just not sure that's entirely accurate. As I understand it, the reason the vaccines lose efficacy against the variants is that the vaccines only train the body to recognize the spike protein. From what I've read, the virus exposes the body to more things and creates a more robust immune response. The more robust response through infection offers a higher level of protection against the variants as I understand it. I'll try to find something to back that up but I remember reading something along those lines recently. But I do know it does depend on how long ago you were infected and how severe the infection was.

I'm feeling fine and got the result of the PCR I took at the same time yesterday, also negative. I hope that everyone else pulls out of this ok.

So I woke up today feeling like a truck hit me. Splitting headache, sinuses completely locked up, and horrible muscle aches. Took an at home test only this time I swabbed the back of my throat and then used the same swab to do my nostrils (gross). Totally positive. The rona found me dammit.

Dang Scott that sucks. Send the Wife out for lots of Gatorade and ingredients for a big pot of chicken soup. Get plenty of rest and hopefully this is the Omicron and you'll start feeling better in a few days. If it gets bad you can rotate taking 2 Tylenol and 4 Ibuprofen every 4 hours.

Look on the bright side. You'll have the vax, the antibodies and be ready to enjoy the warmer weather healthy and fearless.

Get better and keep us updated.

Hot tea with lemon and honey helped clear my sinuses. No doubt good clear soup as well. I hope the headache passes quickly.

It was rough last night. Migraine type headache that I still have. My whole body aches. Sinuses are completely locked up. I’m just staying hydrated, resting for a few hours at a time when I get tired enough, and rewatching Breaking Bad. Stinks because it’s gonna be 77 degrees and sunny today. I’d much rather be outside playing golf or even working in the yard. I have less than zero energy. Anyway I sound like a wuss but this virus is legit. Thanks for asking.

Take it easy and the chicken soup is great advice. If you don't want to make it yourself, Whole Foods has really good CS from what I've heard. My symptoms were similar in the beginning, you just need to sleep a lot, hydrate and be patient.

I found a great graphic on testing

Lateral Flow test is the Antigen test

See how the Antigen Test is very good at showing if you are infectious. But it lags slightly on both ends.

The PCR you can tell you're infected sooner, but it keeps showing positive for a while afterwards.
