Wikipedia lists 44 studio albums. Talk about prolific, I guess rust never sleeps. I don't think I bought anything past green dale.
There is a version of this land is your land with crazy horse on the americana album that I love though. Not sure I am up for another failed attempt at linking a youtubes here though.

I have a bunch .... but Ragged Glory was my last purchase.... I have been missing out on Neil, but after 1500 officially released albums (CDs), I now have that many high quality live show cds too.... I used to have a real "problem"
.None lately .... this thread has been awesome! |

(from the same album - this really hooked me the first time I heard it. What a great interpretation!)

A documentary Neil Young & Crazy Horse – A Band A Brotherhood A Barn, directed by Daryl Hannah, made about the recording of Neil's 41st album Barn. The barn is in the high country of Colorado, I believe in Telluride.

This is one of the first performances Neil did of "Old Man" back in 1971. He played the Martin D-45 that Steven Stills gave him in 1969. I've read that Stills gave Crosby and Nash one as well and had them commissioned with Martin with 4 sequential serial numbers.

Another famous Martin, this time a 1941 D-28 that once belonged to Hank Williams. Neil's owned it for about 35 years. It seems like it's in good hands.

Neil Young : This song here is written by Ian Tyson. He's a Canadian. He's livin' out in Calgary on his ranch right now. But, when I was just a kid, 16 or 17 years old, I went to this place near Winnipeg, where I grew up, and its called Falcon Lake. And its just one of those first times when you really got away from home and were on your own. I was just kind of feelin' it for the first time. And there was this little, kind of a restaurant place with a jukebox in it. It was there and I used to go there and I think I spent all my money playing this next song, over and over again. It was the most beautiful record that I've ever heard in my life and I just could not get enough of it. And so, I don't have the record with me here, but, I'm gonna sing it with my friends. We'll see what we can do.

The 'old man' in the song, who was the caretaker of a ranch that Neil was looking to buy, was showing Neil around the place. He had no idea who he was and asked him how a young man such as himself was able to afford such a large piece of property like this. Neil's simple reply was, "Just lucky, I guess".

Harvest Time has the "Old Man" in it on the Broken Arrow Ranch in Half Moon Bay. Hopefully it'll go to the Neil Young Archives after it's limited theater run. Neil joked in the movie that he was a "rich hippie."
Young wrote this about the caretaker of the ranch he bought in 1970. The song compares a young man's life to an old man's and shows that the old man was once like this young man. The caretaker of the that cattle ranch? His name was Louis Avila. The ranch was the Broken Arrow Ranch, purchased for $350,000 in 1970 (just think about those real estate prices compared to now!). Reportedly, Avila was giving Young a tour of the place and asked him how a young man like him could afford a place like this. Young, aged 25, replied "Just lucky, Louie, just real lucky." Avila was quite bemused.

^. I like that too. I really like the video where Neil and Pegi are dancing at the 'gas station' on the ranch.
I just can't pick one favorite song. I was listening to this today and I must have repeated it ten times - and I've heard it a thousand over the years.....it was my favorite while I was listening to it. But the same thing happened yesterday when I was listening to "Eldorado"

"After the Gold Rush".
I always preferred this cover. Honestly I don't like his voice all that much.
