Maybe if you had titled it with "Neil Young" in the title (or something about his asshattedtry), I might have read it and posted there. You chose not to. I did post in the other two threads about him there and his pressure on Spotify to ban other artists he disagreed with politically. Perhaps you should have added to one of those threads.

If you placed a "specific invite" in a thread that people don't read, how is it really an invite? Perhaps you only wanted to hear crickets. I see you started the thread after 7PM last night. Long after I began posting in this thread.

I almost bought one of these a few years back. I think it sold for $300
Neil's MP3 player.

I didn't say it was him...and was not responding to his post in the one he quoted (but, he was to mine).

Once again...don't post stuff here if you cannot bear to allow others with a different opinion to post their opinion as well. That is pretty much what Young does. He is political as heck and reflects in in both speech and music (going after others at will) but does not want others to be allowed to do the same. He should stick to love songs if so thin skinned. If you discuss his music, you discuss his politics. He combines them.

All those jokes about the loudmouthed opinionated uncle who can't read the room, won't shut up around the Thanksgiving table are proven to have their genesis in reality,

Or, maybe more subtly, the scorpion who asks the frog to get him across the river.

It will stay...trust me.

I get tired of telling Higgins he is right, even when he is, but: Great post, Jeff (if that is your real name).

My absolute favorite performer of all time, Joni Mitchell, has jumped into the deep end of the pool more times than Greg Louganis.

So what?

Herr O? Master class...stuff I did not know (Higgins doesn't either but he will say he does)

Now for a little break from the mudslinging with a rather obscure sidelight to Young's career.

Back in the summer of 1977, Neil Young temporarily relocated to Santa Cruz, CA and joined up with some local musicians (Jeff Blackburn, Bob Mosley & Johnny Craviotto) to form a band called The Ducks. They played unannounced gigs in small clubs around town and quickly built up a strong local following. Long before the days of social media, it became a popular game to figure out where the band would show up next, with fans digging around for any scrap of intel they could find. More than once, a crowd would show up at a club, but The Ducks were nowhere to be found. And per Young's insistence, the clubs only charged their regular cover to get in, which was usually just a few bucks.

I had a friend at the time who was connected to the local music scene and he could sometimes sniff out where The Ducks would be playing next. I was fortunate to have seen them several times, usually standing only few feet from the stage.

All good things must come to an end though. As you might imagine, word spread quickly about these happenings in Santa Cruz, and soon people from outside the local area started coming to the shows and it became difficult for the small venues to deal with the crowds. In true egalitarian fashion, The Ducks would play tunes written and sung by each member of the band, but the new larger crowds made it clear that they only wanted to hear Young's classics. This wasn't how the band wanted to operate, so after doing a couple of final shows at larger local venues, and after some jackass stole the hood ornament off Young's '48 Packard woodie, they pulled the plug and The Ducks were no more.

L to R, Johnny Craviotto Jeff Blackburn, Young & Bob Mosley

Good analogy...or maybe those that think everyone in the room believes as they do...and will not tolerate anyone that does not. Then uses insults and intimidation to push them out or silence them. Not just on Thanksgiving...but every day.

I never heard of the Ducks before. That is pretty interesting. Did they make any albums/records?

Young had contractual obligations at the time saying that he could only record and tour with Crazy Horse, so no records were made. This is also why The Ducks couldn't play anywhere but in Santa Cruz where Young was living at the time.

There are some rumors floating around town about recordings being made at some of the gigs, but as of now, none have ever surfaced.

Neil Young and Jerry Miller are/were friends from way back. That's how Mosley came to play with The Ducks.

Which makes jerks like Young different from other celebrities, actors, and artists (since Superman asked earlier).

Music - a lot of talent (although his voice ranks up there with Jerry Garcia and Dave Matthews)
Pushing his politics - nope.

haunting acoustic

original electric

Ramada Inn is kinda ignored, late Neil, but its the most haunting song about aging as a couple I've ever heard.
I don't care about Neil's politics, but I do care that he's been an advocate of getting rid of mp3's on streaming services; Amazon Music's move to high rez was in large part inspired by his speaking out.

I don't care about his politics either; although trashing wide swaths of Americans (who buy his music) strictly because of where they live is pretty unappealing. What I do care about is that he uses his fame/success as leverage to try to get other artists banned (from being heard) that disagree with him. I cannot imagine anyone supporting (or even not caring about) that. Simply relegating attempts to silence others to his "politics" is like dismissing a KKK rally burning a cross in someone else's yard because they wore nice percale sheets. Imagine if...say Paul McCartney or Elvis Presley had worked to silence him back before he was rich and famous. He might be selling shoes at JC Penney's today (and we would be deprived of his music).
