If not allowed to sell his music; what do you think he would have done? Been a rocket surgeon? He reportedly did not do particularly well in school and was not a real physical specimen (sickly and frail) ...so although Canadian, probably not a lumberjack candidate either.

I was talking about Elvis. I think Neil would have been fine. His dad was a famous Canadian sportswriter, he (Jim) wrote a very popular YA novel about Hockey that's still regarded highly today. He could've very easily traded on his dad's fame to get started on a career.

Completely unconscionable that he wouldn't want to share his art on a platform that actively promotes a view he is morally opposed to. Next thing you know the church wont want to host mass in the planned parenthoods basement.

Elvis? Why?

Young's bio seems to indicate that his father and mother split when he was young and he was raised by his mother. It also indicated that he was not very good at anything but music (which his father encouraged him to leave as he saw no future in it). Once again, imagine that after putting all his (Young's) eggs into music (no real education, job, or prospects in another industry), a big artist of the era like Elvis or McCartney had the venues and record companies ban his music as he has tried to do with other artists. Things sure would not look the same for him or music as they do today.

You generally do not get a job as a writer (or anything) just because your father wrote a book (or many) ...unless your remarried father (who took your brother but not you), is wealthy enough to buy you a job (and decides it is the right thing to do).

Of course the point is that Young was in the wrong for what he did (trying to blackball other artists), not that he might have been the first rocket surgeon despite of his poor scholastic record.

I only made one "accusation". Pease point out where it was incorrect?

I am only responding to posts that I find inaccurate. Perhaps you should request that that the folks making those posts about his character should post those in PARF instead of here (and stick to his music). Then I would have nothing to post here. Why do you feel that only posts you disagree with should be sent to PARF?

I have already posted in the thread you linked to (many times) ...and you did not provide any argument there that Young did not do as I indicated. Did you even read it?

What I have posted is pretty much undisputed (even by his fans and Young himself) as far as I know. Some (like Young) apparently just think censorship is a good thing (if it censors those you disagree with).

I don't recall the platform actively promoting the views of either artist. Can you describe how they did so?

Young and other artists tried to use their combined influence to remove another artist from a platform that had no open political viewpoints. Folks were free to listen to whichever artist they chose.

If activist political Karens in the business can blackmail platforms to ban Joe Rogan, what about a small, starting artist? This was probably not the first or last time. The difference was that this time they attacked a person that was worth more to the platform than they were.

Rogan's net worth is estimated at $120M. The deal for his podcast that Young sought to have shut down was reported to be for $120M.

BTW, that is a really poor analogy. A better one would be having a pro-life group and a planned parenthood abortion clinic renting different floors of the same building (owned by someone that just wanted to collect rent from both and not kick either out over their views).

This is my absolute favorite version of this classic. This is a perfect example of how recording the 'space' the music is being played in is as important as the voice and the instruments. The intro still gives me chills, after a million plays.
