Hey Jeff,
Good Thread
People are driving distracted.
Cell phones, Texting, Drunk, Stoned and plane pissed off.
They even have a T.V. show called Road Rage with actual videos.
You never know what is going on in their head and why they are driving like that.
I was in a massive traffic jam on a 2 lane road.
Bad Accident no movement for 20 minutes and I see a SUV on the shoulder of the road with his emergency flashers on passing everyone that was stopped.
I thought what a Dick.
About 30 minutes later I see the same SUV at the accident site.
He was a Doctor rendering aid to the victims.
You never know what other people are up to.
Sometimes I see a biker that annoys me and I want to hit him.
I think to myself I like bikes and I want to hit him what are people that don't like bikes thinking.
There used to be a M/C Sportster group about 20 years ago,
Were you Colorado Jeff?

Bernie

The hazard/risk of a brake check - or even just flashing the brake lights to signal back off - if an accident were to occur - and the other car had a dashcam, you've just been recorded for doing a brake check and increased your share of liability if anything were to go to court.

If you want that, brake check away and assert back @ him and get ready to join his anger level in an instant.
All because you could.
BTW, that moment of silence was when all those kids with him just realized why Jeff likes his guns so much.
Assuming that I can't move over or there's no where to go in front of me (speed up and get to the left) because there's a car in front of me, I'll usually back off a bit by lightly letting up off of the gas. I don't slow down much, or fast enough (like a brake check) but I do slow down. They usually back off.

I like the suggestion of hitting the hazards for a few flashes.

I also fantasize about releasing BBs (the tiny .177 for a kid's BB gun) or maybe a handful of talcum powder. But I'd never do either.

I used to brake check tailgaters but not anymore. Too many idiots on their phones and not watching the road. Also its not my place to try to make people drive better. You want to drive like a fool, OK I'll get out of your way.

But I guess I'm not sure how to "communicate" with tailgaters going forward...
From now on I'm going with DonDavis' method, hazard flashers for a handful of flashes. I think that may be effective communications and hopefully, less triggering for aßhats.

I've fantasized for the same sign, but mine would include "slower traffic keep right" followed by "no, your other right" or maybe "right is that -> way."

But I'd never actually do it.

I have little tolerance for drivers that follow too close, I did have one car that was factory equipped with a solution, my 1971 BMW 2002 had old worn out intake valve seals, so I drop it down a gear or two and toggle between full throttle and closed throttle it did not take long for the smoke screen to cover the car behind me, they would back off. People in the car with me would laugh their heads off.

LOL, yeah, I noticed the same. He never batted an eye or flinched. I'm guessing this was not his first rodeo.

At 56 y/o now, if I’m honest with this board (and myself), I’ve been both guys in Jeff’s story. Thankfully the other guy disappeared after I was about 25, and I do have a wryly-amused “Jeff approach” these days. But I think part of my wisdom today is from having the awareness that the other guy’s archetype does exist; he’s usually quite young and has a chip on his shoulder for unknown reasons, and is capable of some very dumb and inexplicable things. Ask me how I know…

Agreed. Testosterone is perhaps the most dangerous of all substances. You turned that corner at about 25 y/o, and it took me much longer to quit being stupid.

I am 65 now. Today, I watch motoring idiots with amusement and 100% passivity. I take no action whatsoever except to create as much distance as possible. I do not try to teach them a darned thing.
