Love deviled eggs, but I make mine very simple. Either Miracle Whip or mayo and regular yellow mustard.

Kraft had a great commercial years ago when a vixen looking woman was bringing deviled eggs made with Miracle Whip to a church picnic!

I cannot for the life of me understand people who add celery or onions to egg salad or deviled eggs. Anything crunchy in eggs makes me think of egg shells in there.

If I don't use Chipotle Mayo....I use Dukes' Mayo.
Never Miracle Whip.

agree...no celery or onions.

Try a dash of horseradish in the deviled egg yolk mix.

Add dijon mustard and a dash of vinegar and you have a proper deviled egg!

WHAT? NO WHITE VINEGAR???? I love deviled eggs and mix the yolks with mayo, a dash of salt, small bit of mustard, and a bit of white vinegar, with a dash of smoked paprika on top. I eat them all, because my wife doesn't like them very much. I make the vinegar flavor pretty stong.

Was cleaning out the panty and put milk chocolate chips in my banana nut muffins. Wife does not dig banana bread, very tasty warm and melty with the chips. Make muffins out of banana bread recipe, pecans>walnuts

Also good with frozen blueberries mixed in, but they turn out a weird color

Wife made chicken and dumplings, good cold weather fare

Trust and believe those Southern gals can cook

Yep, deviled eggs are quick and easy. I'm not sure that I'd classify them as a winter snack since they are usually eaten chilled. But hell, I've got ice cream in the fridge, so what do I know.

Mmm, I love a grilled cheese, but I'd never had it with bacon. That sounds delicious!
I've had all sorts over the years, starting with velveeta and american slices when I was a kid in the 70s. I've had cheddar, colby, etc....

I think my favorite cheeses for grilled cheese are "butterkase" (I had one great one for several years, but can't get it any more and have only found one other (boars head) that's not as good as the other. And my other favorite is another cheese that's not super common, huntsman. Huntsman is like a layer cake made of cheese. It's layers of stilton in between red leicester. It's a much stronger, more pungent sort of cheese.

But I've never had a grilled cheese that I didn't like. Probably my least favorite would be made using American slices.

Interesting. Sounds like a 60s/70s based mom-made "casserole" that is now comfort food. I'd probably eat that. No "great" cuisine starts with "campbells cream of mushroom" but plenty of comfort foods include it. I will still happily gobble up "green bean casserole" (I use "French style" canned green beans, and extra fried onions). I also grew up with "Shepherd's Pie" where the base was hamburger, onions, bell peppers, and cream of mushroom soup." I still occasionally make it and love it and the kids love it too.

Damn! I like the sound of that! At the whole foods in Houston, they have 2 brands of horseradish sauce, I like the "Gold's Horseradish" and have some in the fridge. I'll have to give that a shot.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever had them with vinegar, but that sounds good. Absolutely, smoked paprika is my go-to for many, MANY things.

My wife makes "chicken and rice". It's something that she grew up with. She made it years ago the way that she'd had it when she was younger, which ended up being almost more like soup. It didn't do anything for me. Then at some point, she found a new recipe. I don't know the exact recipe, but I think it's basically rice, garlic (LOTS), chicken, and home made chicken stock. I think the recipe that she found calls for onion and garlic, but I don't know if she uses any onion, but then doubles, triples or quadruples the garlic. It's not soupy, but it's also more wet than normal cooked rice. Maybe closer to a risotto or maybe a little wetter than that. It's like crack. When she makes it, I can't (and the grandkids and kids) can't get enough. I assume the key is the home made chicken stock/broth (and the prodigious amount of garlic).

Ding! Update to test if the forums are "stuck" again.

My guess is that this post will NOT bump the thread to the top of the list.

Great. Now I'm hungry.
I just go for a regular hard boiled egg with salt. No deviling needed.
