Makes a good argument for fake marinas with yachts, fake beaches, etc.

I do like the Detroit track's pit mall. Super wide with teams stalls on both sides.

Kind of a letdown after Indy. But hey, it's still racing, which is a ton better than no racing, right?

I really dislike the Detroit track. I wish they would go back to Belle Island. That was a much more superior track.
I will be at Road America this week.

This race severely tested that theory. An honest race to the finish eeked out by the Maestro (i.e, Dixon) made it worthwhile. Up to the green run to the end, it was absurd.

Have a blast at Road America Skytrooper.

Thanks Astro ! I go for Indycar every year ( friend of the Road to Indy series engine supplier). Always a great time. Two years ago I was in the pace car for the Indycar race. Another favorite for me is the IMSA race at Watkins Glen. I have been going there for 40 years. Back then the cars were GTO, GTU, and prototypes. I used to have breakfast at Savards with most of the drivers and spent long nights at the Seneca Lodge with the same group.

I haven't ever seen that much bouncing. Is that the best Detroit can do for a track?

I have to winder, what does Detroit have on IndyCar that IC would even bother? And another question: do the teams just know that taking a car there is like taking a Cup car to Talladega? I mean lots of cars at Talladega get plain written off. Can an IC team afford this carnage?

I'm starting to think that the old Tony George IRL made sense.

Now that RA is a real track.

Agree the pits are cool in Detroit. That’s it. Penske could do so much better.

How could you miss the shot after every commercial break of the Chevy hq? This the second year at this joke of a course designed to get more eyeballs on Chevy and Ford. They previously raced at Belle Isle which is a lovely location and track.

Both IMSA and Indycar races were crashfests beyond the norm. Can’t be much fun for the fans either.

Simple, I don't watch the race, just the highlights. I can't be bothered with spending 2 hours on something like a street race. I don't even go to the LBGP anymore. They've been doing that for nearly 50 years and it's old.

But it's a good show for them and everyone makes money so there is that. It was a lot of fun when Al Unser Jr. and Michael Andretti were trading wins. Mario won the first F1 race at LB and that made it work. History will tell you that the LBGP would not have survived without those 3.

It was an idea by a travel agent named Chris Pook to have a Monte Carlo style race and he, originally from the UK, was an LB resident. Other cities followed but it hasn't really been that good of an idea. It's a money grab.

I went to the LBGP for many of the F1 races and most of the Indycar races. Chris Pook wrote a book on the history of the LBGP that is waiting for me to read. Yea its a money grab, but it sure seemed to work out for downtown Long Beach.

Yes, it has worked for LB in many ways. It's not easily copied is what my point is. But do know that Pook had Dan Gurney and Les Richter from Riverside Raceway plus a host of others to work on the project. I think J.C. Agajanian helped as well. A lot of lesser known but local figureheads got on board.

Pook, of course, went on to IndyCar as president for awhile. In addition, he was on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2016 Olympic Games. He is a past chairman of the board of both the Long Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Greater Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, and headed the Long Beach Sea Festival for a time.

He did a lot more, too: https://rrdc.org/member/christopher-r-pook/

That's what it takes.

Add to that several grudges from previous races and an out of nowhere rain just enough to make everything bad no matter which tire you chose. Today's 'race' would have been a hit with Crashcar/NASCAR fans.

Ferrucci needs to be slapped hard for his performance today. In the pre-race he seemed proud of his pizzing off all the other drivers.

I think this newer Detroit setup may IMO win the award for the worst track (beating out Long Beach).

Yes, Ferrucci drove like a total moron the entire race. Someone should be pulling that little ****head aside and giving him an ass whopping, before the other drivers do
