I keep "wheel books" in both the Tundra and FJ since I use them for the farm business...record keeping is everything, especially for vehicles not tagged for farm only. For gas stops I write down the standard stuff: date, time, amount, of gas and track the mileage off the odo...if the odo is wrong at east it is consistently so

I also track specific trips for farm related stuff...mileage in/out, date and the purpose of the trip.

The Tundra gets 17.0 hwy/15 in town. I drive it mostly on longer trips.

The LC 15/14 and I really work at squeezing MPG!

I average, driving both, about 10k per year. They have both been paid for for a long time so any addition to the rotation really doesn't make financial sense.

When we move to South Carolina I may get a smaller truck. Not really sure.

I routinely saw single digits calculated MPG on my FJ80. The highway was not its friend. Still miss that truck….

One other observation, particularly with my trucks, is that there’s a huge difference between 65 and 85. Our Ram will return about 22 MPG on a rural highway going 65-70, but more like 17 MPG at 85 MPH. Good reminder that in the drag force equation, its velocity squared. So if you really want better MPG just slow down, advice that I doubt any of us will heed!

Not really.
My daily is a Tundra and then the 2 Porsches. Commute is 30 miles a day.
What irks me is all the cars requiring premium that is 20%+ more than regular.
It's rare that you see the price for premium on the pylon signs and I think lots of people don't even notice.

last i checked premium was about $1 more per gallon here. That's more like 30% higher.

I think the odds of that happening over the next four years are pretty slim. Regardless I had trucks and sports cars during the Obama era of $4 dollar per gallon premium, I’ll get by. Life is too short to drive boring cars.

the odds of it happening in the next 4 years are actually really, really good. if he tries to tariff canada for example, thats going to spike oil prices. he spiked oil prices several times in his first term because he chose oil company profits over every day americans. he begged saudi and russia to produce less and raise the cost so that the US industry could make more money.

and its not like we can do any better, we have broken the production record, not just for the USA, but for the world, 3 times in the last 3 years. we are already drill baby drill, and the oil industry has laughed at his plans to somehow increase this further. we have been a net exporter basically since the pandemic. US oil and gas is going as fast as it can, and isnt being held back.

and then there is the whole, if you lower the price of oil, basically most of the US oil industry goes bankrupt. thousands without jobs etc. so like we need the price to be at least what it is to sustain our industry. its not going to go down any time soon.

so the odds of the price of gas going up, are pretty much 100% at this point. and i see many people bragging about that not mattering to them, right up until the prices start going up (shocker).

im pretty insulated from this, because i don't have to drive almost anywhere in my life, i do all my driving for fun. living 2 miles from work remains one of the best life decisions ive ever made.

What are you talking about Cocker?? The price of oil and gas at the pump was lower under Trump than either Obama or Biden by a significant margin.

not really.

besides the pandemic dip when oil went negative, his gas prices are the same as bidens. adjusted for true inflation, they are probably cheaper right now than trumps term.

That past production model was not acceptable to investors.

Things have changed since the 2015 and 2020 industry collapse.

Nope, Ive found that most things I gravitate towards , burn some fuel . I do love that the diesel trucks return pretty good mileage when doing truck stuff .
Cars.... Ill take driveability/performance over fuel economy any day
I did , go back to driving cars daily though . Once fuel shot up in $ driving boring clunky pickups every day just got old, from the standpoint of actually driving them, but also , fueling them, when I didnt really need the hauling capacity anymore
My 3/4 ton work trucks ate $25.00 for every single trip I made to the rental houses, which , back in the day was 2-4 times a week .

[QUOTE=masraum;12386078]To get 30 mpg, I'd probably have to do all of the hypermiler tricks. My commute is 84 miles of interstate. I generally have my cruise set at 83. Last year, I very consistently got 21.5mpg. This year, I very consistently got 22.5mpg. No idea why, and I noticed the same in my wife's car, about 1mpg more than last year, so it's not just me or the car. I do pass people, and that often means that I run up to 100-ish. I occasionally hit 110-115. So yeah, I'm sure I could get more, but I think it would require a lot to get up to 30mpg, and I don't think I could pull that off. I don't have that kind of will power.
[QUOTE]

Yep. I have seen 30mpg in highway miles on the 5 fwy heading south @ 65 cruise with 2009 Cayman PDK and LOTS of CHP enforcement. I don't think 65 mph is acceptable on the highway in central Texas. You would get run over quickly by long haul trucks.

My Conversion Van and 911 50-100 mile daily commutes were during the $4/gal for 87... near the end of GWB ... I wuz unemployed during Obama's terms ... neither one had much to do with that or gas prices either .

Neither did Carter way back when ... or Reagan ... RIP

A world wide recession and Covid had a bigly impact upon gas prices... and big oil profits as of late ... for several years running.... from my perspective... $$$ ... follow them...
