Yeah sorry to be grumpy. Got a call last night. Third relative to pass in two months. I'd tried to help him get into a home, get him into a visiting nurse, get to the hospital for a heart situation. He had kept saying no and was offended. Another 4 inches of snow and I'll started with that situation. Few minutes ago water started flowing. Collecting snow all day was getting passe. The family company who installed the orangeberg sewer pipe was slated to come pull the meter and snake the pressure line to the street this morning, so it was good timing to cancel so he could do his own business. There is also some type of electrical heating trick using the pipes which was recommended by the city. I think It involves the (+) inside and the (-) at the metal street shutoff. Something like that. Guy mentioned knowing of a house burning down when the homeowner used a welder. With electrical systems using pipes as a ground I can't imagine something not going wrong. Life gives us tests to do it better. Things fail. Think about everything not working at once.

We're up to 6 degrees F and about 8 inches of very light snow.

![]() It's just lots of fluffy light density snow here in North Canton. Nothing close to blustering.

It's interesting. It was 23º when I got up this morning. It is 26º now. But the rafts of ice that were floating in the puddle in the driveway have melted. I guess the ground is warm enough to melt the ice on it or keep liquid as liquid. The grass outside is still coated in ice, and where we've had some digging work done recently so there's disturbed earth, I still see some small patches of snow. I wouldn't expect anything to be melting when the temp is in the mid 20s.

21 degrees, feels like 1 degree. They said the snow would stop an hour ago and now they say it will stop in an hour from now. Probably have a foot on the ground.

Not as bad overnight, maybe teens below zero and has now “warmed” up to single digits above zero.
Bundled up this morning and went for a 6 mile run at about -3F. I normally have sissy feet and hands, but my feet always stay warm when I run. Wearing regular mesh running shoes with a regular ankle sock and then a Darn Tough wool? sock. No snow here in metro MN.

Power has been out for four hours now . Two trees on power lines in front of our house . Whole house generator saving our bacon . Currently 33 degrees and raining . Power company website says a crew has been assigned so there is hope for today .

I've seen reports that there are lots of roads near me, and in the greater Houston metro area that are iced up.
I've also seen a lot on FB about folks in my area (within a 40-50 mile radius of our place) talking about power outages, some for 3-6 hours, and some ongoing for 12+ hours. I guess we were fortunate to have no issues (water or power).

I don't think I've driven anywhere that there was salt. We've had temps in the 60s and 70s for most of the winter, and this is the first that the temp has dropped below freezing.

Get off my lawn!

![]() ![]() We ended up with about 7 inches. The Koi pond has two small heaters, and it is doing well in the single digits. It is supposed to drop to 4 again tonight. We spent about two hours shoveling the driveway off to the point I could get the El Camino out, and back up the hill of our driveway. I could have gotten out anytime, but back up the driveway, and into the garage would have been a real challenge. The 911 is put away until dry roads, so that part of the garage door has a large pile of snow. My wife could get he Macan in and out, but it is clean and likely going to stay inside until the roads are clear. We did the front sidewalk from the mailbox to the front door as well. The sun is out and it is all the way up to 18 now. The sun is helping a lot to melt off the driveway in the areas we shoveled off.

^^^ As long as you have open water, the Koi should be ok. Even if it freezes over, they should survive a few days. I've had mine freeze over on cold nights and they seem fine when it melts off.
The turtles don't like it one bit....they just lay on the bottom until it warms up.

Why did you shovel? Just in case you end up needing to go somewhere? Because surely, you don't have anywhere that you've got to go for the next 2-3 days. And I'm sure there are no laws or city ordinances that require you to shovel like there are up north. Are there still critters in the pond (carp, frogs, etc...)? I suspect they are thankful for the hot tub.

Just found out one of our neighbors had a tree come down on their house . Not major damage but enough that they have water coming in . We are coming up on 7 hours of generator power . No sight of electric company yet .

We warmed up to 11 F at this time. It is still snowing but mixing in some sleet. We have at least 12" on the ground.
I got sooo lucky last night. My squad shift ended at midnight and the temp was reading at 4 F. A call came in at 00:05! The overnite crew is all 20 something members. They can handle the cold mo' betta\.

![]() It looks like Nashville really got hammered with ice. ![]() We shoveled off the driveway just to have the option of going to the local restaurants as an option. Most likely we will just stay home for another day. Our AC unit will not be used until it gets into the 80s, and that is a while off. The natural gas furnace is working fine for our heating needs. We have lots of toads and occasional frogs in our Koi pond. I can't imagine they overwinter in the water. I thought they burred themselves in the ground. No turtles either, just 4 Koi. We do have a toad orgy every spring. Tons of toad eggs that the Koi love to snack on. We see a few dozen tiny baby toads, the size of a horsefly in the yard, and and later a handful of toads the size of a quarter. Just a few make it to adulthood.
