Get off my lawn!
|
Dang it, we evidently did have sleet first, so the fluffy snow stuck to the concrete. The leaft blower did very little to blow the snow. It was 11 degrees and my face was getting cold, so screw it. It was snowing as I tried to move the snow. Lots more to crap to fall as yet. Fortunately we are stocked up with food. All utilities are working fine.

I used a shovel this morning for our 4-ish inches and was able to use the leaf blower this afternoon for the additional inch or so that had fallen. It’s a very light and dry snow.

Calm day today, the snow starts overnight and it’s supposed to snow all day tomorrow. I cleared snow from the roof, moved piles of snow around, and filled the snowblower with fuel. I’m ready.
I also removed around 25 pounds of snow/ice from the wheel wells and under the running boards of my vehicle

I was trying to figure out why that wasn't ever an issue when we lived in Japan, then I realized, all of the roofs were fairly steep and metal, so the snow/ice would eventually just slide off. I guess your roof is asphalt tiles (so not slick)?

So far ... so good ... pooch took me for an early slide & poop outside ... but pretty minimal. Mebbe all the precip is coming later (as they saidit would) as freezing rain...
She usually just goes down deck steps into the back yard ... and barks at deer .This morning it was PLAY TIME .... pooping in the front yard on a leash ... at frigid temps (for here)... good times ... I reckon ![]() Stay safe folks ... please don't fall

We're at 4 F right now and the snow is so fluffy it resembles theatrical snow.

Well our predicted 12+ inches turned out to be more like 6”. I’m perpetually amazed how they can get it so wrong. 2026 supposedly computers are taking over the world but they can’t even accurately model and predict the weather.

It's 23º here right now. We may have gotten a little rain, but I don't think we got much. There's a very thin layer of ice on the cars and the grass. We also got some "snow pellets" which is what my family has always called it when it snows, but instead of flakes they come down as tiny, lightweight, white balls, so not snow, not hail, not sleet.
What's interesting to me considering the 23º temp is that our driveway has a liquid puddle in it. There appears to be a few small patches of floating ice, but most of it is liquid. I guess we've been warm enough, and got cold enough fast enough that the ground is too warm to allow it to freeze.

Woke up to about a 1/8th inch of ice and 30 degrees . Precipitation still coming down as a mix . Lights have flicked a few times but so far power has stayed on .
A large weather blob is coming but it looks like it could go a little north of us . We shall see . Tomorrow the temps plummet to single digits . Darn cold for here . |

I feel bad for you guys down south. Ice is bad - worse than snow in my opinion.
It’s been snowing here since about 7 last night. It’s an icy snow, not flakes, so it’s not drifting as bad as it could.

And it looks like Houston roads are fine. I only see 3 instances showing ice on the road. ![]() Over the next couple of days, we're showing a max of 3% chance of precipitation, so I don't think there's going to be any adverse impact. I did see something that said that there were ~1700 homes without power in the Houston metro area yesterday evening. I have no idea where those are/were or why they were without power. This is certainly a very cold front, but was a non-event. Of course, it may have been a non-event because of planning. I know that on Thu they were pre-treating the roads for ice.

100%. Snow is a pain, but not a big deal unless it's measured in feet. But ice and freezing rain can cripple a city in short order.

GDOT in my opinion did a very good job pre-treating the main roads with brine . Secondary and rural roads get cinders or nothing . I know our road got nothing .
The weather forecasting so far was quite a bit off in regards to amounts of snow . You can have the most sophisticated equipment available but mother nature makes the final accurate call . I am happy they were wrong ........ so far . |
