I don't know what it is, but it's docked in Kaneohe. Reminded me of the Bill Murray "Life Aquatic" movie ..

It looks like a tourist boat...and I am guessing. From the photo it seems you could ballast the boat down and have folks look through the portals that are now underwater.

All the hatches look really watertight.

Cool.

Aside from having no light pollution and a great subject, would you mind sharing how you set your dslr(?) to take that amazing shot? If not, no worries.

It's not a secret. :)

Nikon D300, 18mm (effectively 27mm in full frame), ISO 3200, f stop as wide open as the lens allows - mine was at f3.5, 30 second exposure, cable release, and tripod. The trees were "painted" with a LED flashlight - you have to experiment with how long to "paint" the trees. Can't answer that one, though with the flashlight I was using, it was a quick up/down, covering the trees. The mountain was "painted" by the lights from the cabins and the Tamarack lodge. Since I shoot in RAW, there was also a little post processing.

Thank you for the compliment!

Yep that got me to wondering too! Was thinking it could be one of those rowing boats that folks do ocean crossings in. But the oars look way too short and not mounted in a position to even reach the water from there? Does look like a light pole on the bow. And wind generator for electricity.

Did it look like there is meant to be a mast, that is down for maintiance?
The ports on the side do puzzle me too. Nice smile tho.

I used to row my 25 foot engineless sailboat. Sailed all over Hawaii in that boat, lived aboard for seven years. It was called little wings. It had 12 foot oars, I rowed standing facing forward and pushed the oars thu the power stroke, using leg power as well as upper body.

Love the Kaneohe Yacht Club, stayed there many times over the years.

Thanks for the memories, Geary

Cheers Richard

Wow, color me green. Great shot, and I'm jealous of the dark skies. I've seen some, but the last time, I couldn't take any photos due to being on a boat.

Apparently, the boat owner's nickname IS "Cap'n Nemo", and he has indeed built himself a submersible. He'll go out a ways and partially submerse for a few hours. (No commercial boats docked at the yacht club)

Last Friday's commute, I had the pleasure of pacing around this 991 GT3 for about 33 miles. The sound was orgasmic, the attitude was all business, and the passenger seat ornament was ruining the enjoyment for the driver...Can't have it all.

I set up my camera foolishly thinking I could capture a picture of the LCROSS landing on the moon when nasa basically crashed a rocket into it. Obviously, I failed, but at the exact moment the rocket was supposed to hit, I got a nice consolation prize!
