I was working next door and saw the pile of male blooms and thought it would make an interesting pic. That said - there is something to what you said about diverting the energy from blooming to maintain growth, but on a sago it's probably moot. |
OK, was just curious. I'd never seen anyone do that before and there are a bunch of those around here.

I think they are very ornamental. But nothing I see surprises me any more....including bizarre pruning rituals... |

We installed some Bamboo yesterday for a new project. This morning I set up temporary watering until I can get the permanent irrigation in next week. Bamboo uses a LOT of water and it's important to keep their feet wet - especially when first planted.
This is an easy system to set up - funny pipe with adapter to garden hose which is connected to battery timer on hose bib. Adjustable bubblers screwed into tee fittings with barbs on both ends and a 1/2" nipple on the tee. This coil of bubblers has been used on at least 3 other jobs that I can think of in the past 10 years or so....the last one was for newly installed Cabbage Palms. Save s a lot of hand watering! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464474611.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464474658.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464474732.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464474778.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1464474817.jpg |

Nice, I love Bamboo, but you definitely either need clumping or a very serious plan to keep it in check. Mother nature finds a way.
