That's not a moth. That's a B-29!

Took the carb off my XT 250 to rebuild this morning and look what I found! :)

No wonder it wasn't running right if all of that was in the carb! ;)

Its scientific name is Ascalapha odorata. AKA Black Witch Moth. They migrate up from Mexico this time of year.

Good one, Steve! It was under the seat. :) I didn't know it had a tool kit when I bought the bike so pretty stoked.

Started converting old slides to digital files last night. Here's one from September 1978....

John Muir hut in the eastern Sierras at 11,995 elevation. Other picture is on the way up to John Muir Pass to the hut. This is my hiking partner, not me. Still lots of snow and ice on the lakes in the upper elevations.

Here is Muir Hut Oct. 1973. I took two, two week trips during that winter gathering weather data with another guy. It started snowing two days later, and we spent about a week traveling south in the snow. This was during the first of the two trips.

The approach from the north.

The guy that was with me making a joke using a 4 to 5 ft. icicle as a walking stick going up a place known as the Golden Staircase.

Looks like the D&RGW Narrow gauge train along the Animas river between Durango and Silverton.

Very picturesque.....especially the water and RR tracks....

Must have been somewhere along the way from our travels from Estes Park up through Roosevelt National Park, down to Grand Lake, and then south to Taos, NM. Guess that covers a lot of ground but maybe that helps....

Couple more from that trip....
