Hey Scott, it's this guy. Hannu Mikkola, 1983 World Rally Champion.

He was a special guest at the LSPR rally in Houghton, Michigan a couple of weeks ago. A few of us took a drive with Hannu from Houghton-Hancock to Copper Harbor on Thursday before the rally. Hannu was driving a very rare 1985 Sport quattro.

His connection to Michigan was in 1983 at the Press on Regardless Rally. He was a last-minute substitute for John Buffum who had become sick in Africa the week prior driving a quattro chase car for Mikkola in the Safari Rally. So Mikkola and Michele Mouton's co-driver Fabrizia Pons filled in, using Buffum's quattro. They won, beating Rod Millen's 4WD Mazda RX-7 who crashed. This was the first time back and since this area of the UP has a heavy Finnish heritage, he felt right at home. Rod Millen was also there - great down-to-earth guys, both of them!

A couple more of my pics since this is what the thread is all about

random pics that YOU have taken.......

So I am leaving the dentist this afternoon and find this in a parking lot that can handle 30+ cars. When I pulled into the nearly "empty" parking lot, I was the only vehicle other than the staff who is parked along the side of the office.

What the hell is up with people?......freaking lemmings

The nerve of that pickup truck. At least you didn't have a passenger.

Hahahahahaha, I guess I should have clarified. That "my" green bomber truck....... Sometimes it pays to have a 100 lb door.

Glad to have a dry tent!
Only saw one other canoe headed up lake and one camper across the lake... Love late season outings!

Great pics Skip. what camera are you using?

We have had some significant storms the past week with a lot of wind and surge.

My "point" and duck blind got hammered. Duck blind repair will be easy, the re-rocking won't!

There is detritus everywhere.

Camera question from Scottmandue

For most situations I'm using a Nikon D7100, very easy to do automatic 30 second exposures at night changing F-stop and or ISO film speed settings to capture images. I set the self timer to fire 3 seconds after pushing the shutter to minimize any camera/tripod movement.
I almost always have a Gopro set up as well for time lapse and stop action efforts. The Gopro does not do night photography well since all exposure settings are automatic.
Here's a single exposure from a Gopro sequence:
Flying Death... Mmmmm
