MC Escher original woodcut print http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621196883.jpg My upper arm tattooed by my father. By coincidence, almost a 1:1 scale with original. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621197042.jpg |

BTW, what is the river you posted a pic of - I have kayaked most of the rivers in NC a long time ago and the flow volume looks pretty sporty in your picture. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621255914.JPG |

River is Cheoah River, photo I took across from Tabaco Lodge during the dam release. It is a few miles from TOTD http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621271694.jpg |

In the photo above I am on the right and my wife is in front of me with the big smile. The below, in keeping with the river theme, is me and my college roommates on, I think, the Stanislaus in California. George, from Taiwan, is sitting next to me grinning at the camera...this is in 1982. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621273352.JPG |
Holy crap, that damn release photo looks scary as hell.

Seahawk, white water rafting is on my bucket list. Glad you had someone take the photo, it is priceless.
The dam release flow was loud, we ate dinner right next to it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621280433.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621280433.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621280433.jpg |

Do it. Ask around, find a good company and enjoy. You are just hours from some of the great rivers in the country. And you have the Targa. Tough to beat. What time of year do they do the dam release? I am sure it is seasonal and luck may be involved, but I would really like to see it in person. Water at that amount of force and movement is a stunning thing. Visited my son last week in Norfolk. He passed the Virginia bar and went from the dreaded inside tiger cage to a window! The One Eyed Jack: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621281685.jpg |

Seahawk,
Congrats to your son passing the Bar ! Great photo :-) I plan on going rafting this year after I go sky diving again with my daughter. Here are the dam release dates https://noc.com/events/cheoah-river-release/ My buddies son just started a summer job in Buena Vista CO, rafting guide. Will be living a tent over the next 4 months.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621290092.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621290092.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621290092.jpg |
In August of 1971, some high school friends an I floated the Salmon River in Idaho from the end of road at Corn Creek to Chittam Rapids which is east of Riggins. Spent three nights on the river. We borrowed a sweep boat that was made out of two US Army bridge pontoons. No guide, just a bunch of crazy kids with a some maps. I got off and walked ahead to get this shot.

Nantahala is a great beginner ride. Ocoee is a fun river and fairly consistent in ride year round (regulated by dam release) The Nolichucky is class 4 rapids (and even one class 5 if there have consistent hard rains for a week or two) Been down all of them more than once. random: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1621307936.jpg |
