we have a saying in dutch "You can give a monkey a golden ring, it's still an ugly thing"
Now in this case, it's still a Ford innit.

This fella was sitting on a leaf on the rose bush the other day.

A couple of days later, and he's still there.

Having some breakfast.

Many years ago, I had a photo of a smaller one of ^those^ eating an assassin bug. Then within a week, I had another photo of an assassin bug eating one of those spiders.

And a tiny cousin hanging out on one of the other flowers.

I'm not sure where he though he was going?

I've got a nice camera with nice lenses, but 99.9% of my photos are taken with my phone. It's always on me and takes pretty good photos. It's an amazing time that we live in.

Speaking of spiders. I grabbed these shots while mowing the lawn several weeks back.

for some size reference

next to the toe of my rubber boot for size reference

And then on another occasion a couple of weeks after seeing the tarantula, I saw a tarantula hawk flying around looking for a victim. Its body had to be 2-3" long.

I am addicted to riding trains. Private rail cars are the best way to go but owning one is worse than a large boat. Lots of maintenance cost. So, I mooch rides off of friends.

Sorry to go OT on this, but is there a ride/tour that you can do by train where they have "cool, old" style cars and service?

Yes, I use to hang out with the people who own this car.
We spent a lot of time drinking on this car, plus when Jax was in line for a Super bowl bid, they used it to take VIPs to the Super Bowl in I think New Orleans.

Other than daytime excursions and dinner trains there are not many options. The Rocky Mountaineer is now running more modern equipment in Colorado and Utah but you spend nights in hotels along the way. Operations like Pullman Rail Journeys was in business for a while but then not. It may have started up again. There are a number of private cars for charter but they are usually quite costly. If you have a group of like minded friends to split the cost with it is still pricey. There is an organization of private car owners, some of which will charter cars that you can hang on the back end of AMTRAK trains.

Thanks. My wife loves period TV, and watches a bunch of British mysteries. She'd love to go on a train ride (think "orient express") with the cool old cars, dining cars, etc.... I've been assuming that sort of thing is pretty rare.
