We adopted two feral kittens before Thanksgiving. There is a program here that is very well run.

They were small so no outside ops until Spring...they would have been lunch for the Raptors that hunt this area.

Martha giving the birds stink eye.

Good for you Paul. You have a great place for them to "cat around" once they are older.

Got in some mountain based therapy with a buddy I've known and adventured with since high school- 47 years give or take.

40 degrees means clear wet roads. narrowing some after the pavement ends and potholes start popping.

Baker lake is down 20' plus as usual for this time of year, making space for spring run off and atmospheric river flows.
Mt Baker has almost all the rock cliff areas covered in fresh snow, right at 100" at the ski area, they get up to 500" of snow some years.
It's always very quiet in winter, a perfect spot to go for a 1/2 mile walk and set up a little ultra light chair to watch the sun set, reminisce and drink in the ever changing lighting and fog wanderings.

Space Force launch Sunday evening from about 90 miles. Could even see the side boosters after they released.

The Falcon Heavy was quite a sight - wasn't it, Curt? Those boosters were mesmerizing....

I need to get to Cocoa Beach or thereabouts for one of the launches. Saw a YouTube vid shot from the beach and you could very clearly see the sideboosters land at sea. Incredible!

We saw a launch 2 weeks ago on the way to Kennedy Space Center. We pulled over with everyone else. The ground shook and the noise was unreal considering the distance.
It looked like a roman candle streaking across the sky.
I also saw the booster land, it made 2 loud bangs when it landed.

I'd love to go see a launch some day, it's got to be one of those things words just don't do justice to.
Great photo Brian!

Tuned up a neglected 1966 Robin Hood bicycle for one of my Son's friends, the bike ended up here after his last move out of Seattle a few years back.
Being the last one to move out of a 3 person shared rental is not optimal- lots of stuff left that needed cleared out to at least hope some of the damage deposit got returned. It did.

Our son was here at Thanksgiving and we were going through stuff left here to give away or take to the dump and this bike was in question.

Son says hmmmm, I wonder if Brenna wants this bike since she's living in Seattle and relies on public transit and her own two legs to move about.

Turns out she does. She's a sweetheart and has had a rough go in life at times, so I agreed to go over the bike and get it roadworthy.

2 tubes, 2 tires, 2 set of brake pads, lots of cleaning, disassembling and greasing it's ready to be returned.
I couldn't abide by just dropping it off in the condition it was in.
Much better now!

Sturmey-Archer 3 speed hub

Local bike shop was fresh out of John Bull No 25 brake pads

Had to go with "universals"

Rally rather a lot of parts in the hub, simple durable design. Only had to replace the loose 3/16' ball bearings, the 2 sets in cages cleaned up well- no rust!

The stuff for 3 speed hubs. 2 tablespoons in the oil fill hole, seal it up and yer good to go!

That would be so cool! I've seen Minuteman III launches from Vandenburg AFB but I'm now kind of out of that biz so I'll have to watch launches from off-base rather than from the LCC. I think that they kind of protect the times of those and others with classified payloads (dunno on how they do NOTAMs and marine exclusions) but I recall that for nonsensitive things they do publish schedules pretty far out. It would be super cool to see a "heavy" head off over the pacific one of these days (IIRC they head south-west-ish over the water). I'm guessing that for the Cape it's similar. MM3s are tiny missiles, pea-shooters compared to the big stuff...

Little troca (trocito?) gifted to us from my parents looking over Los Alamos towards Santa Fe and the Sangre de Cristos. 2003 Ranger, fully loaded, was under 40k miles before I drove it back from Michigan...

Oh wow. Brings back memories. I had a bad habit of over torquing the hub in high gear with my "plow horse" legs. It would shear off those pins with the half round milled into the ends. I recently came across a box of spares.
