Hawaii, 2023 into 24

Our son joined us on Maui.
I know there's controversy about visiting there since the disaster, but 70% of Hawaiian economy is tourism.
We decided to go and it was very very good as usual.
All the locals we spoke with were welcoming and warm toward us







After a week he had to go home to LA, we transitioned to the Big Island for another week
That was mighty good too!








No big fireworks displays other than the locals gathered by the saltwater pool and put on a show we enjoyed from our lani

Nature, found another dead possum in the front yard, and by the time I got home, there was a crowd of these ugly buzzards, they pulled it out of the yard, into the street in front of the neighbors house, that was yesterday, today, they moved him across and down the street. It appears that they have eaten this poor guy from the butt hole in.

Saw the same thing with a deer in the neighborhood. About a dozen ugly buzzards made a quick meal of the deer starting from the butt. 🤢

Even the Canadians are grounded today

It tried to snow last Thursday, too warm to stick.
Coldest temps of the winter that night and next day thanks to the arctic outflow from the Frasier valley and the cloud cover blanket being ripped away.
Funnels on down here from time to time, but temps that low are rare.

The 911 loves it, headed up to the Oso landslide memorial since it was most all bare pavement. Good to get Ol Yeller out for a spin!










The slide memorial is really getting some work, looks like good parking and nice picnic shelters. I do hope they punch a trail through to the river. The alders are growing so fast it wont be too long until you can't see the slide any more.

Mt. Higgins has a beautiful fresh coat- first snow on the surrounding mountains always takes my breath away


The mighty Skagit connects up to the Frasier much more directly, Diablo is only about 40 miles from Canada- so it's too cold for my purposes!

We got hammered by wind and tides...I've been rocking the seawall the past few years, thank goodness.

More work today and another 40 tons shows up tomorrow.

The two supervisors: Dottie and the neighbors Heeler. The neighbor is a complete pro at this stuff and is doing the work at a significant discount
