Another fun getaway to Ross Lake, my Son flew up from Pasadena, his best buddy Luke from Baltimore.
They missed the last 2 years of this tradition, attended the prior 11 years.
Luke refers to it as "2nd Christmas"

The boys are back!

Lake was 20' low, usually full pool by July 4, not as much rain and glacial run off as forecasted

Waterproof boot test- passed.

Up Devil's gorge with a paddle

Fleet of hand made wooden boats that have been replicated from the original kit boat they bought for resort use back in 1950. With a 15 hp motor they scoot pretty well with 2 aboard

After the portage down to Diablo, got out of there just as the haze from wildfires on Chelan started impacting the clear blue sky

Saw Chris Smither last night at Freight & Salvage. He's a 79 year old blues guitarist singer. Just him, his guitar, and tapping his feet. He's a treasure!

I resemble (d) your comment!!!!

(And mine was an 87, I pulled in the front arms to early arms to fit those deeper dish wheels) I also gouged the inner rear wheel wells with a muffler splitter and pressed them out with a porta power to fit the rear 930 offset rims. The car was about 2 inches wider in the arse, but you'd never know it!

Next February seems like a good time to return, if not sooner

Early morning drive yesterday for a camping permit on Diablo.
They have a lottery to issue permits in spring, 60% of the campsites are filled that way, they keep 40% for "walk ups" that's how you get a permit for the same day or the next night of camping. I scored my favorite boat in site for Thursday, great views from the top of a couple outcrops within 15 minutes of camp.
Weather looks clear and the Perseid's Meteor shower is underway.
Hoping for some good captures with the GP 12 I got a couple weeks ago.

Stopped at a derelict mill and pond site along the way just off the main river channel and saw a splash and long tail slip underwater.
A couple Otter have taken up residence and have a den tucked away from the main trail.
They both watched me a while as I worked my way closer, then I stood quietly for a couple minutes and did my best otter chirping impression. Just as I hoped they were curious enough to come up pretty close to see what the heck I was.

Drove the 911, it ran superb!!
5:30 am run on highway 530 was nearly empty, just the way I prefer.

Right to left view points of the GP suction cup mounted to the head light.
Did some hyperwarp video from the drivers side headlight and a spot just behind the driver's door looking forward- I'm still processing the footage from that.

Stopped by to visit my Grandmother and Great aunt today.

While there, I got a few pictures of the newest neighbor and one of the other neighbors.

Overnighter via 15' Pygmy Golden Eye stitch and glue African Mahogany Kayak that's celebrating it's 23rd birthday.

She's ready!

Upped my adult beverage choice from dark beer that's too heavy for hot weather to something more tropical and fitting for blistering 75-80 degree heat

Yup, all that crap fits into the 2 storage compartments no problem, including my 3.5" thick extra long and wide REI Camp bed inflatable mattress... everything I take kayaking or backpacking has been replaced with lighter better options than what I had back in the 80's.

Except the sleeping pad, it's gotten progressively thicker and heavier- sacrifices must be made as we age for comfort's sake

Sun set right on top of Devils peak from my perspective. There's a fantastic vantage point from a prominent chunk of mountainside just a 5 minute walk from camp. With the Perseids bouncing off the atmosphere currently I slept from about 9:30 pm until 11:30 and then wandered back up to the view point for about 90 minutes. None spotted during that time period but the GoPro caught at least one or two.
Wildfire smoke hampered the views, North Cascades hiway was closed due to fire less than 20 miles east of Diablo

Pyramid Peak and the tip of Paul Bunyan's stump- morning view

Same, evening view

Iphone struggles to capture night photos, turns out kinda artsy

GoPro 12 does wonders!

Monkey Island had the winds something fierce

Quick stop on the way home at Fortson's Mill to see if I could spot the otters... no dice!
