Off topic? Yea, OK. But this is one of the best threads I’ve read yet. Can’t tell you how impressed I am with the extent of interests and skills of our board members.
Bruce, K911SC, nostatic: You guys started this. Wonderful pics triggered memories of dirt bike riding and racing in my younger days. My brother successfully raced a Montessa in Central California in the early seventies. The following picture is something I drew 25 years ago for my brother’s pit crew tee-shirts (that’s him, mustache, numbers, bike, and leathers correct). I silk-screened a bunch of shirts (all now long gone) and for some fortunate reason printed one on poster board – which has remained stashed away for a long, long time. Until today – your posts caused me to dig it out and scan it with great pleasure and joy. One of my favorite memories was racing my brother and his Montessa on a 500 Triumph Daytona (TT imitation) in his garage for a late Saturday night short track, flat track. Spectators were at their own risk – sit or stand on the washer, dryer, or work bench. Those were great parties. Redwood City neighbors were very, very tolerant.

Here I am a couple years back...
To update this to today, add a very dull white 911, blond hair, and giant ear to ear grin ![]() Britt, just back from his first real drive in the 911! |

Vash,
Do you really climb bridges for a living? Throw in some more detail please. I am curious. I hope you are not afraid of heights.

Thanks to all for the interest. Carl [/QUOTECarl, do you own Kramers old Apache?? Thats one sweet boat. Are you going to the Cambridge Maryland race? I didnt make this yrs A.C. race. I blew a motor. (had a bad header, got some water inversion). Hopefully I'll make the last few races of the season. As long as I make it down to Key West , I'll be happy.

Me and Garrett
These were taken last night after a long PCA drive to Crater Lake. The 911 was bug-encrusted after a very unPCA-pace drive. My "older" son (only three) Garrett needed to scrub his Porsche too.
![]() ![]() His car uses a very ineffecient evaporative cooling system that limits the performance of the car. About one lap of the cul-de-sac and he has to pit to get a drink. Troy

84porsche, before sept.11, me and my friends would climb up on the bridges to have lunch. we go under the guise that the bridge needs "inspecting". we actually went on a suspension bridge tour, i only have the golden gate bridge to climb and i would have done all of them in the bay area. i am a bridge engineer with the state, so i have a key to the small hatch that lets you onto the towers. my girlfriend's uncle, is a engineer on the goldengate bridge, so i am trying to work that angle. security is starting to relax again, so i may start the "lunches" again.
btw, even if you are afraid of heights, the beginning tends to be the only scary part. once you get way up there, it gets kinda abstract, and you dont realize you're up that high. fun stuff.

Cliff, that is just awesome. I'd love to do a "climb" like that. The view is certainly worth it.

You'd be amazed how many pilots are afraid of heights.
It only bothers me when I can see thru the floor (helicopters) or upside down above FL410 looking up at the ground. Last time I did that was in 1978 in an F4N. For some reason I can look out the window at the ground 9 miles down without any problem. But at the top of the mast on my boat (70 feet off of the deck) my knees go.

Sing,
Absolutely! Almost 4000 hours in H-60s and I still hate the view through the floor unless I'm coming aboard the frigate!
