On a lighter note... BSG

What did you guys think of the premier? I enjoyed it, but it was so different from the previous BSGs, it seemed like a different show to me. I know that some people think it would get stale if it just continued the old cat/mouse theme, but I've realized I LIKE cat/mouse. I also really like the military aura of the show, which was almost completely absent in the premiere.

On the other hand, Tigh's character was developed in a way we haven't seem before. That guy is a clear-thinking, take-no-prisoners, 100% badd-ass. He was great, and I hope they continue the theme of his leadership of the resistance.

Gaius was the a popular roman name. Julius Caesar was really Gaius Julius Caesar.

Caligula's real name was Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus. Caligula is a nickname meaning "little boots" because he use to wear a little legionary costume when he was a boy.

I have a hunch - that the toaster cylons didn't kill the prisoners. We do see Laura Roslin in the 'next weeks episode' teaser, so obviously, she didn't get killed. Would be a shame if they killed off Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch) - due to the tie in to the original show.

Perhaps they were re-programmed by Six or the Sharon from Galactica to kill the Dean Stockwell character and the other cylons holding the prisoners captive. That's my guess.

Is Starbuck losing it or is she playing 'nice' with her little freak cylon family to get them to trust her so she can get them to lower their guard on her?

I think the character is too strong to even let something like this shake her. She must have suspected. Like I said in the other thread, I think she has formulated a plan to get her and her daughter out, and she is playing nice to get what she want. I think she is just using this as an opportunity to make her behavior change believable.

(I think the scene where she waits to start eating until after she killed her captor says it all.)

his resurrection was a little too quick compared to the method that they showed before. They must have a station in the settlement.

I don't know... I was 100% on board till season 2.5 ! The whole concept of BSG to me was a chase for survival, in space... Space fights, logistical issues, are there cylons on board, etc...

....and it was NOT getting old.

I liked the caprica stuff and the planet of the ancestors search too because it tied in nicely and that was still Sci-fi stuff... Then that season finale threw it all away, and it's not been better ever since !

Now, the new story line takes place in what seems like an afghan refugee camp, they effed up the characters in twenty different ways, and the whole thing reeks of cost savings to me. We could not afford too many more space stuff, so let's use some mud and tents for a while, that's cheap ! I don't quite see any Sci-fi stuff anymore, more like national geographic and (admitedly disturbing) justifications for terrorism, and I really hated the one year jump.

I am especially not buying how the cylons, who were hell bent on nuking humankind, all of a sudden want to play occupation force and treat humans as pets. Why bother to occupy the place and not simply nuke it ? What changed ? Caprica 6 obviously is not inthe majority! (see head shot). Also, I don't buy the change of heart : the galactica Sharon is now Adama's best buddy, so are we going to see mixed crews of human/toasters now ? She married agathon too ? I thought human-cylon marriage was not in the constitution ;-)

Mostly, I miss seing some viper flying and shooting stuff...

Despite all this, I cannot NOT watch it, I know it's going get good again at some point and it's much deeper than other TV shows...

Greg - fear not - I don't think the remnant of the 12 tribes will remain on New Caprica much longer - the next story arc is titled "Exodus."

BTW: I don't really see that much of a parallel between BSG and the current world events (Afganistan / Iraq, et al). Rather, I see closer parallels to the plight of the Hebrews of ancient times: wandering in the desert for 40 years in search of the promised land = leaving Caprica and searching for EARTH.

There are twelve tribes of Israel, as there are Twelve colonies in the BSG world. (Side note: I wonder if any of the twelve colonies will refuse to continue on to earth - in ancient times, the Hebrew tribes of Reuben, Gad and 1/2 of Manesseh chose to stay on the east banks of the Jordan river, and didn't cross over into the promised land.)

The colony's current stay on New Caprica can be seen as the time when the Jews were slaves in Egypt, with the Cylons being their Egyptian masters. (Note the similaries in the cylon mask and the faces on the Egyptian tombs). Given the title of this week's episode (Exodus), the parallel is pretty tight.

Well, I do think we now know how Baltar will now be with the Cylons, and how he will get his Basestars for pursuit.

I was watching "Home" on UHD yesterday (the one where they enter the tomb of Athena). At one point, the Caprica Sharron is talking about the relegion of the humans. Point 1: "We know more about your religion than you do." Point 2: "We do not respect the false gods."

Therein lies the beauty of BSG - similar to Star Trek - The Original Series - it is able to deal with moral and ethical issues without the complications of 'real world' politics that come into play.

We obviously root for the humans - but sometimes the cylon philosophies make more sense than the human ideals. And within both the human and cylon camps there are disagreements / mutiny within the ranks. A very twisted and imperfect world. Perfectly dark, perfectly flawed - perfectly sci-fi.

Thus the appeal of the show.

Also, we now have 2 suposed mixed babies, one witha cylon mother and one with a cylon father, I wonder if those 2 will play a role later on !

That said, I cannot wait till they get back into space and we get to see more of sexy #6 again. I like my philosophical debates interspersed with vipers shooting sh$T and #6 being naughty.. ;-)

What if Casey is a clone of Starbuck? I thought the Cylons couldn't reproduce without "love"?

I think the suicide bomber part, along with the weapons in the temple, IS far closer to Iraq than Palestine. But the occupation is much more like Nazi Germany than Iraq.
