Unfortunately, the "like minded" people you speak of are doing more than simply conversing among themselves. They are trying to force their beliefs on others (such as demanding "equal time" for teaching creationism in schools).

Ooooh, I forgot about the schools. I don't like the idea of equal time either. I don't think they should bother teaching the big bang theory and evolutionism at all. Actually I agree with the the big bang part. God said "Bang" and there it was.

Funny thing is that most people (IMHO & not saying anyone in particular) that don't like or believe in the biblical message never read the Bible.

Why should they not teach science in schools? Isn't that doing a dis-service to children?

I implore you to learn more about evolutionary theory and even the complexities behind the Big Bang theory. It is actually very interesting and shouldn't be written off so flippantly.

Which women were forced to get abortions? Which gays were forced to marry? I'm against late trimester abortion, so I don't think I'll ever have one. Likewise I don't think I'll marry a guy any time soon.

Uhh, I think gays are promoting gay marriages, not atheists. I wouldn't doubt that the majority of gays identify themselves as Christians or adhere to some other religion.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see how not believing in a god or gods pre-disposes a person to favor partial-birth abortions.

But it is your religion that is against these things (let’s not nit pick about various forms and types of abortion). I don’t believe in your religion, so why should its rules apply to me? This is what freedom of religion means: I don’t have to believe in your religion nor follow its rules if I don’t want to.

I have a friend who is way more liberal than I. He says he is more afraid of fundamental Christians than he is of terrorists. He has a point, although I’m not sure I totally agree with him. Fundamental Christians would take away many of our civil liberties in a heartbeat if they could, force us to go to church, stop the teaching of evolution, etc, while the probability that I’ll get hurt or killed in a terrorist act is pretty small.

Alfred, that’s really really scary. I don’t see much difference between you and a fundamental Muslim, trying to force his views on us. The only difference is the type of bomb they use. The Muslims use explosive bombs and you try to use legislative bombs. To me, you are just as scary as a fundamental Muslim terrorist. You are both trying to take away my freedoms, freedoms to do as I see fit. I completely equate your fundamental Christianity with their fundamental Islam. They are equally scary.
