I have different expectations from young males of legal age whose music reflects a rough upbringing encompassing violence, real or imagined racism and poverty than I do of a couple of 13 year old girls whose views are ENTIRELY reflective of their parents' indoctrination(1).

I think the racist language in rap music is (a) a minority of the point of it, and (b) a byproduct, rather than the point of the music. Those two chicks don't seem to be able to say the same thing...

I want to be clear - I don't condone the "kill whitey" crap in rap, and it saddens me that people buy it (my guess is that listening to it makes them feel badass).

(1) I recognise that "indoctrination" is a strong word, but my view is that we (being humans) are not preprogrammed to believe that one race is superior to another.

Having worked with some of the "Gangsta" groups on their videos back in the late 80's- early 90's (N.W.A., The D.O.C., Ice -T,etc.) people need to realize that these personas and biographies were dreamed up and embellished by the record labels to sell records AND a lifestyle. I know a good amount that had an upbringing very contrary to the trials, tribulations and body counts that their "Biographies" attest to. But when you have BILLIONS to be made thru clothing, liqour, electronics, shoes and YES even auto accessories, the $$$ add up fast. Granted, there are some that have lived the "Thug" life and have paid the price but the majority are Corporate Puppets that are as much "Gangsters" as Stallone is a Pro Boxer. I mean, come on, is Brittany Spears really a singer just because she's put out a few albums?

Its funny, my two boys growing up, idolized Blacks, Rap-stars,
"gangstas", MTV and that whole lifestyle. They were always getting on me , telling me im "intolerent", and predjudiced because of my attitude towards that hip-hop crap. After they got out of high school and started working and living in the real world and not some made-up MTV world, within 3 months they turned into two of the most rascist guys I know! (not that I'm proud of that.) Even thier taste in music changed. Whenever I ask them what happened, I get " yeah ok, fine, you where right!" which any parent is happy to hear. I guess they realized that things are not always what they seem.
Mabye I do have some racist views, growing up Italian in NYC, that was basically ingrained in you. But as I got older, any prdjudice that I had, changed from what I was taught to things that I observed and experienced. To tell you the truth, most of the hatred I was taught when I was young was towards another white group, the Irish. When I got older I started hating people of my own heritage, the Italians. Especially the way the Mafia is idolized. I never understood the concept of putting criminals on a pedestal.
Hopefully when these two girls grow up and can think for themselves they will change their views.

If not at least when they turn 18, they can pose in their Smiley- face Hitler thongs!!

Basically, what I am hearing is that it is OK for blacks to hate but whites are held to a higher standard. Is this the equality that the civil rights leaders of yesteryear were striving for? I kind of doubt it. I would bet that many of the true civil rights folks from yesteryear would be appalled by the way many blacks today choose to live their lives in todays free society. Bill Cosby recognizes this, too bad that more people do not see it as clearly.

There are poor white trashy people as well as poor black trashy people in this country. Both should be held accountable for their own actions instead of trying to blame their plight in life on something that happened many generations ago.

What's sad about this situation (other than the overt racism) is that the mother has basically destroyed the future of these two children with her "teachings".

They obviously have some modicum of talent and are certainly photogenic...two traits which could easily be parlayed into a viable careeer. But that is never going to happen.

Instead they will never be viewed as anything other than as mouth pieces for an antiquated, hateful and repugnant white supremist philosophy. I sense disaster ahead for these two.
