What about the supposed verses in the Koran about killing infidels? If that's really in there (I haven't tried to put my finger on it and am actually skeptical), that sounds like force to me.

Not stirring the pot - serious question.

Those passages are with regard to self defense. There is a part about an "armegeddon" of sorts at the end, but that's the hand of God.

I know of nothing that dictate forcing someone to do something...

I mean hey, there may be something that I missed, I'm not trying to say it doesn't exist, but I am skeptical that it does, that's all....I never seen anything that dictates force.....

And thank you for a serious conversation. Refreshing...

"i stated religions that i know of"

no you didn't
you stated "religion" full stop

here we go again:

you are getting flack because you make a generlized statement
and you haven't been willing to admit that that statement was wrong
instead you keep repeating that you stated something else,, namely " i said it was relgions that i know off" balls! that's not what you said

i do not belong to , i lead my religion, and in my religion you don't get to read the books till you convert... it's sort of like scientology , you dig?

further more, i already posted the section that teaches to spread the faith with a sword..that was a direct quote.

don't worry , you'll have your chance to learn, when you see a dude with a sword, and he says , do you convert,?just say "i do"

and it helps to start adressing me with my proper title.. if not you might have like very little time to say "i do", the boys sometimes get a little bit exited with the sword when they see somebody who has been known to diss the faith....

Dude...

That's such a tired arguement. I've heard this one before supporting the conclusion that Catholicism is "better" (in some way or another) because they're older and have more knowledge... Lets not forget that was an extra 1500 years to start the crusades, sell "indulgences", perpretrate land grabbing, mis-interpret MANY passages, declare that Catholics couldn't marry non-catholics, etc...

While I agree there is a vast knowledge-base in the Catholic church, there is also a history of over-interpretation, creative expansion,etc.. that goes along with it. Lets not forget why Luther decorated the door.

You'll have to refer to a Koran expert... However I recall some deep conversations in college with a few friends that had read extensively and their opinions of the mis-use of the Koran was in reference to a passage talking about the "War against non-believers". However that "war" IN CONTEXT refered to a war of rhetoric, in other words persuading them through discussion, to convert to the true faith as stated in the Koran.

also, jihad is about *internal* battles within one's self.

Just like any religious text, interpretation is everything. You wanna go literal, or allegorical?

the ability of this board to morph topics never ceases to astonish me. if I were to start a thread on , oh I don't know, shoe horns...it would morph into a god thread or a bush thread.
