No, I do not believe in full scale assistance for all, but there are those who truly need help through no fault of their own. Obviously, our responses on threads like this ar limited and do not say everything as clearly as we probably would in person, but to dismantle social assistance completely would go a long way in transforming our society back to an almost feudal state with a majority of poor and disadvantaged, and a minority of landholders and decision makers. Then again, that might make some here rather happy.

BTW...Get a copy of the November Scientific American and read the article on page 42, or just go to www.sciam.com/ontheweb a comparison between the economies and services of high income low tax countries and high tax high income countries. You might find it enlightning.

Pray you never become one of the truly disadvantaged in this country.
OK I went and saw that the US supposedly has a 13% poverty rate according to the world bank. China's is only 8% according to the world bank. Yeah I believe those numbers. What a crock. The poverty line is a definition, and the way it's defined if Bill Gates makes more money next year and everybody else makes the same then the poverty rate goes up, because the poverty line is set as a fraction of the mean. The poverty rate in the US is more a reflection of the income gap, not how many people are really poor.

Very few in this country live in true poverty. Go to central America and see a family of 10 living in a 1 room corrugated steel shack with a dirt floor. That's poverty. How many people starve to death in the US? Seriously, almost none.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Exactly, we don't even know what poverty means here. Those that live on the streets do so because of mental illness or addiction, not lack of opportunity or charity.

I voted for Arnold, too. It's just too cool having a Governator. If Clint Eastwood was running I'd have a tougher decision.

Schwarzenegger has surprised me with his strong work in office.

I am needy, with an over 6 figure tax free income from disability insurance, yet I still get the child tax credit and get back more than I put in. Gotta love the democrats. And thanks to everyone else paying for my racing habit.

Do I think I should get this credit, NFW. But its there and as long as it is I will take it. ON the other hand democrats tax unemployment insurance, social security payments (for the second time) and waiters tips, so I think I DO deserve the credit.

Of course if democrats get wind of this loophole they will tax the disabiltiy income of everyone making over $10 a year, go get back at us rich guys.

Casey is a die hard conservative when it comes to social issues. So was his dad.

We just got a DINO.

I actually voted for him over Santorum(both are about as anti-abortion as they come though)

And just how are the Dems doing this? I think the Repubs have been running all three branches for the last 6 years. Where have you been?
